Job Description

Synechron is seeking an experienced IBM Transaction Manager (FTM) Tech Lead to design, develop, and implement transaction processing solutions. The role requires a strong background in banking or financial services, expertise in FTM architecture, and proven leadership to guide technical teams through complex projects, ensuring seamless integration with core banking systems and optimizing FTM environments.
Must have:
  • Lead design, development, and deployment of FTM solutions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams for FTM integration.
  • Configure, administer, and optimize IBM FTM environments.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex transaction processing issues.
  • Develop and enforce best practices for transaction management, security, and compliance.
  • Document technical specifications, configurations, and procedures.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and leadership.
  • Coordinate testing, deployment, and post-implementation support.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and FTM updates.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field.
  • 4+ years experience with IBM Transaction Manager (FTM) design, configuration, and administration.
  • Strong understanding of transaction processing systems in banking/financial environments.
  • Experience integrating IBM FTM with core banking applications, middleware, and enterprise systems.
  • Familiarity with WebSphere, MQ, SOAP/REST APIs.
  • Knowledge of database systems (DB2, Oracle, SQL Server).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Effective communication skills.
Good to have:
  • Master’s degree.
  • Certifications related to IBM Transaction Manager, WebSphere, or middleware technologies.
  • Experience with cloud-based deployment models such as IBM Cloud.
  • Knowledge of DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and automation tools.
  • Familiarity with other transaction processing frameworks or middleware solutions.
  • Experience with security protocols and compliance standards like PCI-DSS.
  • Previous experience working in agile or DevOps teams.
  • Exposure to data analytics tools or reporting related to transaction data.
  • Additional language skills or international banking experience.

Our challenge

We are seeking an experienced IBM Transaction Manager (FTM) Tech Lead to oversee the design, development, and implementation of transaction processing solutions using IBM Transaction Manager. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in banking or financial services, expertise in FTM architecture, and proven leadership skills to guide technical teams through complex projects.

Additional Information*

The base salary for this position will vary based on geography and other factors. In accordance with law, the base salary for this role if filled within Toronto, ON is CAD $120k – CAD $130k/year & benefits (see below).

The Role

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design, development, and deployment of transaction processing solutions utilizing IBM Transaction Manager (FTM).
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including business analysts, developers, and infrastructure teams to ensure seamless integration of FTM with core banking systems, middleware, and enterprise applications.
  • Configure, administer, and optimize IBM FTM environments to meet performance and reliability requirements.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex transaction processing issues, minimizing system downtimes and ensuring data integrity.
  • Develop and enforce best practices for transaction management, system security, and compliance standards.
  • Document technical specifications, system configurations, and operational procedures.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and leadership to team members during project phases.
  • Coordinate testing, deployment, and post-implementation support for transaction systems.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, FTM updates, and emerging technologies relevant to transaction processing.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Proven experience with IBM Transaction Manager (FTM) – 4+ years in design, configuration, and administration.
  • Strong understanding of transaction processing systems within banking or financial environments.
  • Experience integrating IBM FTM with core banking applications, middleware, and other enterprise systems.
  • Familiarity with WebSphere, MQ, SOAP/REST APIs, and other related technologies.
  • Knowledge of database systems (DB2, Oracle, or SQL Server) for transaction data handling.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with ability to troubleshoot complex issues.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Effective communication skills, capable of liaising with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred, but not required:

  • Certifications related to IBM Transaction Manager, WebSphere, or middleware technologies.
  • Experience with cloud-based deployment models such as IBM Cloud or other relevant platforms.
  • Knowledge of DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and automation tools.
  • Familiarity with other transaction processing frameworks or middleware solutions.
  • Experience with security protocols and compliance standards like PCI-DSS within transaction systems.
  • Previous experience working in agile or DevOps teams.
  • Exposure to data analytics tools or reporting related to transaction data.
