Job Description

The Advanced Development Group (ADG) at Industrial Light & Magic is seeking a Graduate Intern for Summer 2026. This role involves developing tools and techniques for trans-media narrative, focusing on real-time technology for creative storytelling in the Star Wars universe. The intern will use machine learning for content interchange automation, generative neural networks for creating HDR skies, and collaborate with pipeline and rendering groups on new tools, testing and evaluating their output.
Good To Have:
  • Experience with Unreal Engine
  • Basic understanding of a 3D content pipeline
  • Solid understanding of 3D math fundamentals
Must Have:
  • Familiarity with machine learning and 3d rendering
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills
  • Comfort working iteratively in a dynamic interdisciplinary team environment
  • Foundational C/C++ and/or Python programming skills
  • Currently enrolled in an accredited graduate program
  • Major or previous coursework in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field
  • Be enrolled in an accredited college/university pursuing a degree taking at least one class in the semester/quarter (spring/fall) prior to participation in the internship program AND returning to school the semester/quarter following the internship OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Internship
  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Possess unrestricted work authorization

Job Summary:

About the Role & Team

Advanced Development Group (ADG) develops tools and techniques for trans-media narrative. Our goal is to expand and enhance the process of creative storytelling in the Star Wars universe through real-time technology, including real-time rendering and simulation. The stories empowered by ADG technology can be found in immersive mixed-reality experiences and location-based experiences such as theme park rides, feature films, and streaming episodic series.

What You Will Do:

  • Use machine learning to automate content interchange for art assets between different stages of the production pipeline.
  • Use generative neural networks to create high dynamic range skies and backdrops based on specific creative direction.
  • Collaborate with pipeline and rendering groups on approach to new tools.
  • Test training of tools and evaluate the output against existing methods.

Required Qualifications & Skills:

  • Familiarity with machine learning and 3d rendering.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills.
  • Comfort working iteratively in a dynamic interdisciplinary team environment.

Eligibility Requirements & Program Information:

  • Be enrolled in an accredited college/university pursuing a degree taking at least one class in the semester/quarter (spring/fall) prior to participation in the internship program AND returning to school the semester/quarter following the internship OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Internship.
  • Current Disney Interns, College, International, or Culinary Program Participants: You may only work for ONE consecutive year (12 months) in any combination of an internship and/or program.
  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Possess unrestricted work authorization

The pay rate for this role in San Francisco is $47.00 per hour.
