Job Description
SS8 Networks is seeking an experienced Infrastructure Engineer to join their team. This role involves the installation, maintenance, problem management, testing, and documentation of SS8's infrastructure supporting Intelligence products. The primary focus is on VMware and Windows Server infrastructure, with opportunities to work with Linux, Kubernetes, and cloud technologies. The engineer will be responsible for field installation and support in secure environments, ensuring client PCs and servers are hardened and secured according to industry best practices. Key duties include Domain Controller administration, patching, deploying anti-virus and SIEM solutions, providing knowledge transfer, assisting with upgrades, and offering remote support to customers. The role requires participation in an on-call rotation for 24x7 customer support.
Must have:
- Experience with Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT)
- Prior commercial experience in an infrastructure role
- Experience deploying and maintaining Microsoft Exchange
- Experience with VMware vSphere environments
- Experience with Windows Server, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP
- Experience with Windows Server Update Services (WSUS)
- Managing security baselines and server hardening
- Networking fundamentals (LAN/WAN, routers, switches, firewalls)
- Technical understanding of network and IT security
- Outstanding customer service and communication skills
- Ability to travel
- Must be willing to acquire Security Clearance
Good to have:
- Knowledge of UNIX/Linux systems
- Experience with Network Attached Storage (NetApp/Dell)
- Experience with Security Information and Event Management (SIEM)
- Experience deploying and maintaining Atlassian Confluence
- Broad knowledge of regulatory compliance
- Experience with Kubernetes and containerization

Job Description:
SS8 is seeking a hands on experienced Infrastructure Engineer role with installation, maintenance, problem management, testing and documenting SS8’s portfolio of infrastructure supporting Intelligence products. The role is mainly focused on VMware and Windows Server infrastructure but does also provide many other opportunities to branch into other technologies such as Linux administration, Kubernetes and cloud technologies.
The successful candidate will be required to work onsite in the Farnborough (Hampshire) office for 3 days a week and have a valid UK driving license as this role will involve ad hoc travel to customer sites and international travel.

Duties/Responsibilities of Position:
- Responsible for field installation & support of infrastructure hosting SS8 Products in often secure environments.
- Ensure all Client PCs and servers are appropriately hardened and secured in accordance with CESG guidance and industry best practice.
- Domain Controller Administration – FSMO roles, ensure high availability and monitor replication
- Implement periodic patching schedules for all client PCs and windows Servers deployed in customer environments.
- Deploy and configure a suitable anti-virus solution for use by all servers and workstations in customer environments.
- Deploy, configure and maintain fully integrated Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) solution
- Document and provide knowledge transfer information across multiple groups within and out of SS8
- Assist customers with upgrades of hardware and software
- Be the interface for New Infrastructure Introduction
- Help customers with equipment configuration
- Provide training on infrastructure operation, one-on-one or in small groups
- Provide remote support to customer base
- Will be required to participate in customer technical assistance troubleshooting conference calls
- Will be required to participate in an on-call rotation with other team members in order to provide 24x7 support to our customer base
Position Specific Competencies/Skills Required:
Essential:
- Experience of Microsoft deployment toolkit (MDT)
- Prior commercial experience in an infrastructure role
- Experience of deploying and maintaining Microsoft Exchange based messaging system
- Experience of deploying and maintaining VMware vSphere environments (including creation of VM’s and virtual switches)
- Experience of Windows Server, Active Directory and similar infrastructure technology such as DNS, DHCP, Organizational Units and Group Policy.
- Experience of working with Windows Server update Services (WSUS)
- Experience of Microsoft deployment toolkit (MDT)
- Managing security baselines and hardening of servers.
- Networking fundamentals - LAN/WAN, routers, switches, firewalls
- Technical understanding of network and IT security
- Outstanding customer service, verbal and written communication skills
- Must be able to travel
Desirable:
- Knowledge of UNIX/Linux system and Service Administration
- Knowledge or experience of deploying and supporting Network Attached Storage (ideally NetApp or Dell)
- Knowledge or experience of working with a Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) solution
- Experience of deploying and maintaining Atlassian Confluence
- Broad knowledge of regulatory compliance
- Experience with Kubernetes and containerized methods of deploying software.
Experience and Education Requirements:
- BA/BS in technology related field (desired)
- 5+ years of experience in high tech, preferably in telecom
- Must be able to travel (including driver’s license)
- Must be willing to acquire Security Clearance or already hold some form of Security Clearance.
