Job Summary

In this role, you will participate in the design, development, and evaluation of control systems components and processes. You will collaborate and support other engineering disciplines for control systems matters. Your professional work knowledge and abilities through the application of standard control systems engineering techniques will enable you to make impactful contributions to the team. This position is performed under the leadership of a Control Systems Engineering supervisor, lead or designee.

Must Have

  • Evaluates, selects, and applies standard Control Systems engineering methods, techniques, procedures, and criteria
  • Participates in the design, development, modification and evaluation of components and processes utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards and guides
  • Coordinates work and collaborates with other engineering disciplines
  • Designs and reviews Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) for various plant systems
  • Specifies instrumentation and control valves for various plant systems
  • Generates instrument and control valve data sheets and material requisitions
  • Performs technical bid evaluations
  • Reviews supplier-provided data and documentation
  • Prepares and reviews control narratives
  • Prepares, reviews and modifies control logic diagrams
  • Generates and applies Instrument Installation Details (IIDs)
  • Prepares, reviews and modifies control cabinet/panel layouts
  • Prepares instrument location drawings (from 3D model)
  • Works within various Control Systems databases (e.g., Instrument Index, I/O list, etc.)
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft 365 application suite
  • Knowledgeable of Codes and Standards pertinent to Control Systems Engineering and nuclear industry

Good to Have

  • Commercial power plant (nuclear or fossil) or DOE nuclear facility experience
  • EIT/FE Certification

Job Description

Project Overview:

Bechtel is the licensing, engineering, procurement, and construction partner on TerraPower's Natrium team. Selected by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) for its Advanced Reactor demonstration Program, Natrium is participating in a DOE initiative to re

establish U.S. leadership in nuclear energy that provides matching funds to industry to design and build an operational advanced reactor. TerraPower, a leading advanced generation technology company founded by former Microsoft CEO Bill Gates, will be deploying its 345 MWE sodium fast reactor (SFR), called Natrium. The Natrium Demonstration plant features an advanced, cost-competitive reactor design that is safer, easier and less costly to construct, less expensive to operate, and able to provide energy that is competitive with fossil fuels. It also features an innovative molten salt storage output, combined, the plant can produce more than 500 MWE. The Natrium Demonstration plant will be licensed by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC).

Major Responsibilities:

Education and Experience Requirements:

Requires bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or related engineering field from an accredited university and 2-5 years of relevant experience or 6-9 years of relevant work experience in lieu of a degree

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Candidate must be a US citizen
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft 365 application suite (e.g., Word, Excel, Access, Visio, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Knowledgeable of Codes and Standards pertinent to Control Systems Engineering and nuclear industry
  • Preferred experience: Commercial power plant (nuclear or fossil) or DOE nuclear facility
  • Preferred: EIT/FE Certification
