Valeo Thermal Systems
Skawina’s engine cooling plant is the largest and oldest Valeo site in Poland. The plant designs and manufactures the latest generation of innovative heat exchangers, i.e., engine coolers, oil coolers, air turbocharger coolers, air-conditioning and complete engine cooling systems (cooling modules), which in addition to their basic functions allow to reduce fuel consumption and emissions of harmful substances including carbon dioxide.

Currently for our entity Valeo Power Division - Front Module Heat Exchanger Module in Skawina we recruit an Intellectual Property Engineer.

JOB DESCRIPTION

IP protection

• Selection of the most appropriate type of protection (Patent, Design, Copyright, …) and best way to proceed

• Definition of the creation/inventions, preparation of the filings (drafting or subcontracting), filings, prosecutions

• Participation to the decisions regarding foreign filings,

• Definition of product coverage strategy with R&D/Projects

• Patent portfolio management

Preventing or defending from third parties actions

• Project studies in view of identified competitor patents

• Action for reorienting any project in case of infringement risk

• Patent clearances and IP Rights validity studies based on one or cluster of families and including risk assessment 

• Contributions to Oppositions / Nullity suits against patents granted to third parties

• Study and follow-up of infringement claims and litigations

Infringement actions against third parties (on the basis of Valeo patents)

• Infringement detection and validity check of the files

• Offensive pre-litigation or litigation actions, in liaison with IP, Division Managements and other involved functions and according to Group rules

Support to other functions

• Reviewing of IP clauses in agreements, Proposition of modifications in agreements

• IP training for R&D/R&I teams

Applying the Environment Safety and Security procedures and good practices. Know for their activities and the activities of subcontractors the potential risks and their consequences. Be attentive and responsive to them and manage the associated action plans.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

• A technical background – ideally in mechanics or thermodynamics – and a good understanding of how our product works.

• Solid experience in Intellectual Property – this is a must-have.

• At least 4 years of experience working in an R&D environment; automotive industry experience is a big plus.

• Fluency in English.

• Great communication skills and the ability to explain complex things clearly.
