Job Description

This internship focuses on the design and optimization of a Low Dropout Regulator (LDO) for DRAM Buffer chips, emphasizing low power consumption and fast transient response. The intern will explore advanced topologies like Flipped Voltage Follower (FVF) or Super Source Follower (SSF) to achieve superior performance in quiescent current, load transient recovery, and stability. This role offers hands-on experience in analog circuit design, simulation, and potentially layout, working collaboratively with senior engineers to validate concepts and minimize delay variations due to power supply fluctuations.
Good To Have:
  • Focus on analog IC design preferred
  • Exposure to FVF or SSF topologies is a plus
  • Experience with transistor-level design or mixed-signal verification
  • Prior coursework or projects in VLSI design, power electronics, or semiconductor physics
  • Familiarity with energy-harvesting, IoT, wearable or implantable power-management requirements
  • Background in modeling device parasitics and layout-dependent effects for high-speed transient response
Must Have:
  • Currently pursuing a Ph.D’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or a related field
  • Basic understanding of analog circuits, including voltage regulators, amplifiers, and feedback systems
  • Familiarity with CMOS processes and tools like MATLAB/Simulink, or Cadence suite
  • Knowledge of LDO design principles
  • Strong analytical skills and enthusiasm for low-power electronics
  • Ability to work independently and in a team, with good communication skills
Perks:
  • Relocation Support: We'll provide a stipend to help support your move if you live 50+ miles away.
  • Housing Stipend: We'll help you pay your way with a monthly stipend for signing a lease.
  • Give Back: Charitable giving match and frequent opportunities to get involved in the community.
  • Prioritize Emotional Wellness: On-demand apps and paid therapy sessions.
  • Stay Fit: Onsite Café and gym, plus virtual classes.

Advancing the World’s Technology Together

Our technology solutions power the tools you use every day--including smartphones, electric vehicles, hyperscale data centers, IoT devices, and so much more. Here, you’ll have an opportunity to be part of a global leader whose innovative designs are pushing the boundaries of what’s possible and powering the future.

We believe innovation and growth are driven by an inclusive culture and a diverse workforce. We’re dedicated to empowering people to be their true selves. Together, we’re building a better tomorrow for our employees, customers, partners, and communities.

What You’ll Do

We are seeking a motivated intern to contribute to the design and optimization of a Low Dropout Regulator (LDO) with emphasis on low power consumption and fast transient response. The project will explore advanced topologies such as the Flipped Voltage Follower (FVF) or Super Source Follower (SSF) to achieve superior performance in terms of quiescent current, load transient recovery, and stability under varying conditions.

This internship offers hands-on experience in analog circuit design, simulation, and potentially layout, within a collaborative environment. You'll work closely with senior engineers to iterate on designs and validate concepts through simulations.

Location: Daily onsite presence at our San Jose office in alignment with our Flexible Work policy

What You’ll Learn

Project Overview: Develop DRAM Buffer chip to extend inherent speed limitation on high Cio (IO capacitance) due to multiple ranks (high memory density). To support high speed operation, delay variations for data path and strobe path due to power supply fluctuation should be minimized so well-defined internal voltage regulator with fast response for dynamic load changes. For this internship, we are looking forward to find intern with understanding conventional and state of art linear regulator design experience.

Skills You’ll Learn:

You will use most advanced CMOS process technology like FINFET

You will learn how to apply your LDO circuit to actual system with variable current profiles

You will learn how to use most advanced CAD tools to design and simulate the circuits and how to do layout

You will learn how to consider electromigration before starting the layout based on Electrically Aware Design Methodology

Complete other responsibilities as assigned.

What You Bring

Currently pursuing a Ph.D’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or a related field (focus on analog IC design preferred).

Basic understanding of analog circuits, including voltage regulators, amplifiers, and feedback systems.

Familiarity with CMOS processes and tools like MATLAB/Simulink, or Cadence suite.

Knowledge of LDO design principles; exposure to FVF or SSF topologies is a plus.

Strong analytical skills and enthusiasm for low-power electronics.

Ability to work independently and in a team, with good communication skills.

Experience with transistor-level design or mixed-signal verification. (Preferred)

Prior coursework or projects in VLSI design, power electronics, or semiconductor physics. (Preferred)

Familiarity with energy-harvesting, IoT, wearable or implantable power-management requirements. (Preferred)

Background in modeling device parasitics and layout-dependent effects for high-speed transient response. (Preferred)

What We Offer

The pay range below is for all roles at this level across all US locations and functions. Individual pay rates depend on a number of factors—including the role’s function and location, as well as the individual’s knowledge, skills, experience, education, and training.

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp
