Job Description

VMware by Broadcom is seeking a Kubernetes Engineering Manager for the Kubernetes Distribution team within VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF). This role involves leading software development teams for releases, security, compliance, and manageability of Kubernetes and CNCF projects for vSphere Kubernetes Service (VKS) and vSphere Supervisor. The manager will be responsible for high-quality results, timely delivery, internal stakeholder collaboration, risk management, and team mentorship, focusing on Kubernetes internals and open-source contributions.
Good To Have:

  • Extensive knowledge and experience using and delivering complex container, kernel, packaging, and operating system functionality
  • Operational knowledge of Kubernetes in production environments

Must Have:
  • Responsible for high quality results including costs, methods, staffing, planning, and execution
  • Timely delivery of releases which meet SLAs, architecture, security, and compliance requirements
  • Collaborate internally with stakeholders from product, security, infrastructure, and operations teams
  • Management of risk mitigation and escalation to external teams and leadership
  • Manage and define clear and reliable estimates of deliverables to be met with granular target delivery dates
  • Maintain and update metrics and automation for tracking SLOs and SLAs
  • Work with engineering service teams for e2e, scale and performance
  • Ensure Jira and project boards are updated regularly and relevant to current team activities
  • Create and improve engineering processes in collaboration with peer managers and TLs
  • Provide mentorship across group of regular 1:1 session and group meetings
  • Continuous team member performance evaluation and career growth development
  • Kubernetes expertise and proven track record of team member contribution to at least 1 CNCF project and various OSS projects
  • Experience with one or more cloud platform architectures
  • History of leading system software projects/teams
  • Good knowledge of distributed systems, databases, algorithms, data structures
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Bachelor's degree plus 12+ years of related experience and 3 years in management

The Kubernetes Distribution team is looking for a Kubernetes Engineering Manager with deep expertise in software and product development, Open Source Software (OSS) and Cloud-Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) contribution processes and community. The role is focused on Kubernetes internals, and other related projects. In this role, you will lead software development teams for releases, security, compliance, manageability, scale, and integrations.

This position is ideal for managers who are highly experienced in Kubernetes eco-system and projects and passionate about building technology for our customers with a global community of open source engineers.

Compensation and Benefits

The annual base salary range for this position is $141,300 - $226,000.

This position is also eligible for a discretionary annual bonus in accordance with relevant plan documents, and equity in accordance with equity plan documents and equity award agreements.
