CatFace is a YouTube entertainment company creating fun, light-hearted narratives for over 25 million subscribers. We are seeking a skilled 3D Layout Artist to transform scripts and storyboards into cinematic 3D sequences. This role involves using composition, timing, and camera work to establish compelling animated productions, collaborating closely with the animation team to translate creative vision into polished sequences. The position is fully remote or located in Austin, TX, requiring legal authorization to work in the US.
Must have:
  • Develop shot sequences in 3D that effectively convey story and emotion using filmmaking principles.
  • Translate scripts and storyboards into 3D environments, creating camera setups and rough character blocking.
  • Ensure continuity of staging, camera, and composition across sequences.
  • Assemble and manage scene files optimized for downstream departments.
  • Collaborate with modeling, lighting, and animation teams to establish efficient workflows.
  • Iterate on layouts based on director and supervisor feedback.
  • Meet deadlines while maintaining studio quality standards.
  • Stay current with industry trends and techniques to improve efficiency and storytelling.
Good to have:
  • Experience with Python/MEL scripting
  • Unreal/real-time tools
  • Production tracking software (e.g., Monday, Shotgrid)

About the Job

We are seeking a skilled 3D Layout Artist to join our animation team. In this role, you will transform scripts and storyboards into cinematic 3D sequences, using composition, timing, and camera work to establish the foundation for compelling animated productions. You’ll collaborate closely with the animation team to translate creative vision into polished sequences.

This is a fully remote or position located in Austin, TX. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the US.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop shot sequences in 3D that effectively convey story and emotion using filmmaking principles.

What We’re Looking For

  • 3+ years of professional experience as a 3D Layout Artist (animation, film, television, or games).
  • Proficiency in Maya (layout, cameras, staging); Adobe Suite familiarity.
  • Strong understanding of cinematography, composition, continuity, and timing.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Highly organized with attention to detail; able to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently and problem-solve creatively.
  • Bonus: Experience with Python/MEL scripting, Unreal/real-time tools, or production tracking software (e.g., Monday, Shotgrid, etc).
