Lead Backend Engineer (India)

Bolna is the #1 Voice API infrastructure platform for India, used by thousands of developers, from indie hackers to post-IPO enterprises. We are seeking a Lead Backend Engineer to architect and scale the core systems of our real-time voice AI platform. This high-impact role involves shaping the product's foundation, ensuring reliability, scalability, and performance within our fast-growing YC F25 startup with a lean team.

Must Have

• Architect and scale our core Voice AI platform leveraging FastAPI, WebSockets, and Kubernetes.
• Develop high-performance, event-driven architectures for our core orchestration platform.
• Oversee infrastructure scalability and observability, ensuring reliability, resilience, and smooth system operations.
• Maintain and evolve the API platform for conversations, ensuring reliability, low latency, and seamless integrations.
• 5+ years of backend engineering experience with Python.
• Strong expertise in FastAPI, WebSockets, and event-driven architectures, with deep knowledge of asyncio and concurrency.
• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, Docker, and cloud-based deployments.
• Solid understanding of PostgreSQL, Redis, and scalable data storage solutions.
• Proven track record in performance tuning and optimization for high-throughput, real-time systems.
• Experience building scalable systems.
• Led or contributed to 0 → 1 or 1 → 10 journey in startup environments.
• Previously been in a fast growing & scaling team.

Good to Have

• Demonstrated contributions to a Python project or open-source library.

This is an early, high-impact role where you’ll shape the foundation of our product and directly influence its reliability, scalability, and performance.

We’re a YC F25 startup growing at rocket speed with a lean team of <10 builders.

Looking for:

Founding Backend or Infrastructure engineers that have build scaleable systems. Candidates who have led or contributed to the 0 → 1 or 1 → 10 journey and thrived in startup environments, such as ex-founders or founding engineers. Have previously been in a fast growing & scaling team.

Responsibilities:
