Job Description

As a Lead Cloud Automation Engineer, you will empower development teams to deliver high-performance features by designing and optimizing cloud-native architectures with a focus on security, scalability, and cost-efficiency. You will lead cloud transformation projects, advise clients on platform architecture (AWS, Azure, GCP, Kubernetes), and mentor other engineers. This role involves developing and implementing cloud-native strategies, evaluating new technologies, and promoting best practices for cloud adoption and security. You will work with a modern tech stack and contribute to business-critical platforms.
Must have:
  • Support development teams in delivering valuable and high-performance features quickly.
  • Design, implement, and optimize cloud-native architectures focusing on security, scalability, and cost-efficiency.
  • Promote an "automation-first" approach for infrastructure provisioning and application deployment.
  • Advise clients on the conception and architecture of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP, etc.).
  • Lead and implement cloud transformation projects to maximize benefits from cloud-native technologies.
  • Design, develop, and evolve cloud platforms from Proof of Concept to enterprise use.
  • Mentor and empower other Cloud Engineers, fostering knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.
  • Develop and implement cloud-native strategies aligned with customer needs and industry trends.
  • Evaluate and introduce new cloud technologies and best practices for application delivery.
  • 6+ years of experience with AWS or Azure and profound knowledge of Kubernetes core concepts.
  • Strong knowledge of Microservices, Cloud-Native Architectures, and Java Runtime Environments.
  • Hands-on mentality and an ownership mindset for long-term operational excellence in the cloud.
  • Strong communication and moderation skills to align stakeholders and present ideas effectively.
  • Ability to translate technical solutions into business value and support strategic cloud decisions.
  • Experience in platform teams providing infrastructure and automation for development teams.
  • Knowledge of TCO calculations, IT roadmapping, and project estimations for business-driven strategies.
Good to have:
  • Deep understanding of Cloud-Native security principles.
  • Experience with production systems in Chinese cloud regions.
  • Practical experience with Cloud Foundry, STACKIT, Kubermatic, or VMware Tanzu.

What you will do:

As a Lead Cloud Automation Engineer (m/f/d), you will support several development teams in delivering valuable and high-performance features in the shortest possible time. You will design, implement, and optimize cloud-native architectures with a focus on security, scalability, and cost-efficiency. Your core tasks include:

  • Cloud Architecture & Automation: Development and implementation of scalable, high-performance cloud architectures that balance quality, security, and cost. Promotion of an "automation-first" approach for infrastructure provisioning, application deployment, and operational processes with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and CI/CD Best Practices.
  • Cloud Transformation & Strategy: Advising our clients on the conception and architecture of cloud platforms with AWS, Azure, GCP, STACKIT, OpenShift, Kubernetes, Kubermatic, Docker, Kafka, ELK, HashiCorp tools, etc. Leading and implementing cloud transformation projects to enable companies to get the best possible benefit from cloud-native technologies, while ensuring cost and operational efficiency.
  • Cloud Platforms: Conception, development, and further development of cloud platforms – from the initial Proof of Concept (PoC) phase to productive enterprise use. Supporting high-traffic workloads and large development teams through self-service platforms that are secure, resilient, and cost-efficient.
  • Coaching & Mentoring: Mentoring and empowering other Cloud Engineers to foster a culture of knowledge sharing, innovation, and continuous improvement. Imparting DevOps and Platform Engineering best practices to ensure efficient and reliable application delivery.
  • Technical Leadership: Developing and implementing cloud-native strategies aligned with customer needs and current industry trends. Evaluating and introducing new cloud technologies to ensure that the best tools, platforms, and methods are used for cloud-native application delivery. Defining and promoting best practices for cloud adoption, security, and scalability.

What you need:

Do you enjoy working in international, cross-functional teams? Do you have an analytical mindset that helps you debug complex distributed applications? Perfect! Here's what we're looking for:

  • 6+ years of experience with AWS or Azure as well as profound knowledge of Kubernetes core concepts and experience with container platforms and their ecosystems.
  • Strong knowledge of Microservices, Cloud-Native Architectures, and Java Runtime Environments (you won't program in Java, but operate and optimize applications).
  • Hands-on mentality and an ownership mindset to align teams for long-term operational excellence in the cloud.
  • Strong communication and moderation skills to align stakeholders, present ideas effectively, and drive cloud adoption.
  • The ability to translate technical solutions into business value and support clients in strategic cloud decisions.
  • Experience in platform teams that provide infrastructure and automation for development teams.
