Job Description

Wargaming is seeking a Lead Environment Artist for its acclaimed MMO, World of Tanks, played by over 100 million users. This role involves designing and creating immersive game environments and assets, optimizing workflows, and implementing advanced 3D techniques. You will collaborate with the Art Director to maintain visual style and lead the Environment Art team, mentoring artists, improving visual style, and ensuring asset quality. Responsibilities include setting art tasks, training team members, producing high-quality assets, and participating in new tool development. This is an opportunity to shape an exciting AAA title.
Good To Have:
  • Knowledge of architecture styles and principles
  • Portfolio with more than one AAA projects
  • Sketching skills – ability to visualize your vision quickly on paper
  • Traditional art skills (drawing, painting, sculpting, photography)
  • Experience in photogrammetry
Must Have:
  • Lead the Environment Art team – manage, mentor, support and develop artists, sharing knowledge and best practices on site in our Prague studio
  • Improve and develop the visual and artistic style of the project with Art Director
  • Working closely with other Art Department Leads and Art Director to ensure that environments and assets match quality bar and art vision
  • Design and create detailed and atmospheric game environments and assets that support the artistic vision of the project
  • Build and improve an efficient workflow within the team
  • Setting art tasks, setting up benchmark quality, train team members and be responsible for the quality of assets leaving the Environment team
  • Producing high-quality assets hands on for Wargaming, including unannounced projects
  • Participating in the development of new tools and technologies

Reports to

The Lead Environment Artist will report to the Art Manager.

What will you do?

  • Lead the Environment Art team – manage, mentor, support and develop artists, sharing knowledge and best practices on site in our Prague studio
  • Improve and develop the visual and artistic style of the project with Art Director
  • Working closely with other Art Department Leads and Art Director to ensure that environments and assets match quality bar and art vision
  • Design and create detailed and atmospheric game environments and assets that support the artistic vision of the project
  • Build and improve an efficient workflow within the team
  • Setting art tasks, setting up benchmark quality, train team members and be responsible for the quality of assets leaving the Environment team
  • Producing high-quality assets hands on for Wargaming, including unannounced projects
  • Participating in the development of new tools and technologies

What are we looking for?

  • 5+ years of experience as a Senior/Lead Environment Artist in AAA projects, minimum one finished AAA project in portfolio in leadership position for at least 2 years
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and develop a team
  • Systematic thinking, ability to optimize pipelines, and propose efficient solutions
  • Proven ability to create high quality photorealistic models and textures of AAA quality
  • Experience working with game engines (Unreal Engine, Unity, or proprietary engines)
  • Solid knowledge of Maya, Zbrush, Photoshop and Substance products
  • A great eye for scale, proportion and composition, understanding of lighting principles, materials and content optimization
  • Excellent verbal and written skills, and be able to both take critique and give feedback internally and externally in a professional manner
  • Passion for innovation and keeping up with the latest industry trends
  • Fluent English
  • Strong internal motivation

Work mode

Since the team is based in Prague, the role will require frequent business trips to the Prague office.
