Avalanche Studios Group is seeking a Lead Game Designer for their flagship hunting simulation game, TheHunter: Call of the Wild. The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping future content, game balance, and systems. Responsibilities include designing new features and content, collaborating with cross-functional teams, ensuring high-quality product reviews, managing a team of designers, and providing an engaging player experience. This is a full-time, on-site position in Malmö, Sweden. The role requires significant experience in game design, live operations, and open-world game development. The ideal candidate will be a strong communicator and leader.

Job Details

TheHunter: Call of the Wild is our genre-defining hunting simulation game. Released in 2017, the game has seen players all over the world join its realistic and visually breathtaking open world. With a devoted community of players and a fantastic team of developers, TheHunter: Call of the Wild is now looking for a Lead Game Designer to join the project!

The position:
As the Lead Game Designer, you will take a key role in making decisions about new content, game balance, systems and how to improve them to offer a fresh and fun experience that runs over years. So on a high level, you and fellow game designers will lead design solutions for Call of the Wild and work closely with the Producer and Game Director to realize the roadmap you helped develop. On a day to day basis you will design new features as well as content and also take an active role in product reviews to ensure an appropriate quality level as you will work on a wide range of different game aspects.

What you’ll do:

Design Oversight
- Utilize game direction to provide creative solutions and innovative designs to solve complex intersections of  new systems of the game cohesive design solutions.
- Support the creation, testing, and validation of gameplay mechanics and take an active role in product reviews to ensure an appropriate quality level

Collaboration and Communication:
- Utilize strong communication skills to work closely with stakeholders from different disciplines.
- Ensure aligned design execution across all aspects of the game.

Player Experience:
- Have critical insights for evaluating released features.
- Aim to provide an engaging, enjoyable, and accessible gaming experience for core as well as new players.

People Management:
- Manage, coach, and mentor a team of designers.
- Conduct regular performance reviews to support team members' personal growth.
- Serve as a visible, approachable role model with a positive attitude.
- Proactively identify and resolve issues, striving for continuous team improvement.

Who you are:

  • 6+ years in a game design role with at least 2 years in live operations 
  • Experience working on an Open World game
  • Proven ability to contribute to releasable gameplay in a production environment
  • Experience and confidence in presenting new ideas
  • Proven ability to iterate and change gameplay based on feedback
  • Proven ability to create viable design solutions on paper
  • You can communicate to clearly establish common goals and align expectations.
