Must have:

THEMED ENTERTAINMENT – LEAD TECHNICAL DESIGNER

Adirondack Studios (ADKS) is hiring in our growing Technical Design Department. We are seeking individuals with leadership experience in design and construction for entertainment environments who have a track record of taking ownership and delivering results. If you’re a designer seeking a new and exciting workplace, ADKS wants to hear from you. We continue to grow and are seeking Lead Technical Designers with fabrication knowledge, the ability to lead a team, and a desire to learn.

Our company designs, builds, and installs the scenic and themed environments that you experience in venues ranging from theme parks and casinos to museums, live shows, retail spaces, and public art installations. We have been in business since 1975, and our work is seen worldwide. This is rewarding work with a company that is a substantial force in our industry.

A successful candidate is responsible for leading projects assigned by the Technical Director. Every project is different, but tasks typically include managing a team of Technical Designers to produce drawings for Clients and our fabricators; Work closely with Project managers and Production managers to bring projects in on time and under budget; Attend internal meetings as well as client coordination meetings; Tracking and reporting of progress throughout the duration of the project; as well as drafting and modeling. Often, Lead Technical Designers manage multiple projects simultaneously.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum 5 years work experience in a technical design/drafting capacity, with a minimum of 2 years in a leadership role
  • Meet milestone dates in completing contracted design work as well as design to given budgets.
  • Familiarity with theatrical fabrication methods and materials as a builder, installer, and/or designer, including an ability to read and understand design drawings.
  • Working knowledge of various types of both general and scenic construction and materials.
  • Strong experience with Auto CAD and Inventor as well as Microsoft Office
  • Strong leadership and ability to lead staff on project deliverables, with the ability to work well with limited information and constant change.
  • Working in fast-paced environments with accelerated production schedules.
  • Working knowledge of stage/entertainment practices, equipment, and technologies.
  • Confidence to effectively communicate across all lines of business.
  • Strong awareness of Environmental Safety standards, and ADA

DESIRED CHARACTERISTICS:

  • Training or employment in technical theater or themed entertainment is a plus.
  • Strong experience with local jurisdictional protocols and processes
  • Ability to achieve results through the flawless execution of strategies and processes.
  • Ability to identify and communicate creative solutions to challenges, and to maintain a consistent focus on priorities with persistent follow-through.
  • Collaborate with the technical design team, third-party engineers, ADKS production and creative departments, clients, and vendors.
  • Working knowledge of Rhino and REVIT
  • Bachelor’s degree in Theatre, Production, or related entertainment field

This design role offers a salaried pay range of $68,000 – $95,000 per year. The actual salary offered will depend on various factors, including, without limitation, the individual applicant’s qualifications for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and, if applicable, the position’s location.

This salaried position will be headquartered in Argyle, New York (one hour north of Albany and 30 minutes from Saratoga Springs).
