  • Proven legal drafting and commercial contracting experience.

  • Capable of working independently and managing multiple high-priority tasks.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word.

Role Summary

The Legal Counsel will serve as in-house legal support within our global legal team, primarily focused on reviewing, negotiating, and managing commercial documentation. This role demands strong contract drafting skills, sound judgment, and close coordination with global internal stakeholders to ensure legal compliance and alignment with Russell Investments’ risk framework.

This role provides an exceptional opportunity to work in a high profile and successful global investment team.

Years of Experience

4-6 years at a major law firm and/or in-house, with a focus on commercial agreements

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in law from a reputed law school or university

Responsibilities

  • Draft, negotiate and execute investment management agreements and related contracts with money managers across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Identify and mitigate legal, regulatory, and contractual risks in connection with commercial agreements
  • Update legal templates to ensure accurate and up-to-date legal language reflecting key terms (e.g., fiduciary duties, compliance, termination rights).
  • Update legal templates to reflect changes in applicable rules and regulations and industry best practices
  • Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders, including investment, legal, compliance, and operational teams, to ensure contracts meet business and risk standards.
  • Provide subject-matter expertise on legal issues relating to money manager contracts, including dispute resolutions, amendments, and enforcement of contractual rights.
