Job Description

The Pokémon Company International is seeking a Localization Specialist II with bilingual Japanese and English proficiency for a 18-month fixed-term contract. This role involves translating, proofreading, and editing software products, web content, graphics, user interfaces, and marketing/technical documentation. The specialist will collaborate with localization teams, maintain glossaries and style guides, manage projects, and ensure high linguistic quality and cultural adaptation. Responsibilities include translating and editing various company materials, ensuring consistency in style and terminology, and interacting with different departments on linguistic matters. The position requires attention to detail, strong project management skills, and the ability to work under deadlines in a flexible environment.
Must have:
  • 3-4 years of relevant professional experience
  • Native Japanese and fluent English
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • Familiarity with localization tools
  • Detail-oriented and able to handle multiple projects
  • Team player with strong communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

  • Job Title: Localization Specialist
  • Job Summary: This role will translate, proof, and edit company’s software products, web content, graphics, user interface elements, and other marketing, technical or product documentation from one language to another. 
  • FLSA Classification (US Only): Exempt

What you’ll do

  • Works with localization teams to adapt material to meet high linguistic quality and cultural requirements.
  • Creates and maintains product specific terminology glossaries and language style guides to ensure consistency and cultural conformity.
  • Take responsibility for projects, including premier projects, leading one or more support editors throughout the process, maintaining an across-the-board picture of the project’s timeline and needs, developing functional experience with the project, and ensuring that the final outcome is a faithful and consistent adaptation of product, customer communication, or marketing collateral goals.
  • Translate, edit, review, and proof a variety of company-wide materials, such as trading cards, animation scripts, apps, rulebooks, brand- and product-related text, press releases and other marketing materials, organized play documents, and edit for grammar, punctuation, spelling, style, and slang.
  • Ensure consistency in style and terminology.
  • Adapt text information to suit the needs of various audiences.
  • Interact daily with other teams and departments on matters of terminology and style.
  • Ensure consistency by applying a sound knowledge of the brand and internal guidelines, supporting new members of the team in gaining an equal level of knowledge.

               

What you’ll bring

  • Three (3) to four (4) years of relevant professional experience or a demonstrated equivalent level of expertise.
  • Native-speaker level in Japanese and fluency in English are required.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or a demonstrated equivalent level of applicable experience.
  • Familiarity with translation, localization, and publishing tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate, edit, revise, or rewrite text-based content in language of expertise.
  • Must be detail oriented, with proven experience in handling multiple simultaneous projects, including publishing under regular deadlines.
  • Must be a team player with exceptional communication and project management skills.
  • Able to work flexibly in an environment that features tight deadlines and shifting schedules.
  • Ability to learn how to use specialized technical programs quickly. Pokémon brand knowledge is a plus.
  • Knowledge of SDL Trados is a plus.
  • Experience in the gaming industry is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

 

Base Salary Range: For this role, new hires generally start between $78,000.00 - $93,000.00 per year. The full range is $78,000.00 - $118,000.00 per year. This range is applicable for the labor market where the role is intended to be hired. The final base salary is directly related to the candidate’s qualifications and professional experience uniquely.
