As a Manager of Development Engineering, you will lead Extreme Networks' initiatives in Wireless Access Point (WAP) solutions. You will manage an engineering team responsible for delivering comprehensive wireless solutions, ensuring the best customer experience. This role involves defining, delivering, and optimizing Extreme’s controller wireless solutions, collaborating with various teams to ensure quality, security, and usability. Responsibilities include team management, project oversight, resource allocation, and contributing to product designs. You'll work with customers, partners, and internal teams. The role requires a strong technical background and experience in leading software development initiatives, driving efficiency and sustainability.
Must have:
  • 10+ years in software development.
  • 3+ years in management.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field.
  • Strong technical background in software development.
  • Knowledge of C/C++, Python, and scripting languages.
  • Expert-level knowledge of networking technologies.
  • Experience with modern software development methodologies.
Good to have:
  • Wireless networking knowledge (WLAN, IoT).
  • Hands-on experience with GIT and GitHub.

As a Manager of Development Engineering, you will help lead Extreme Networks’ key initiatives in Wireless Access Point (WAP) solutions and offerings. You will be responsible for leading an accomplished engineering team accountable for delivering comprehensive wireless solutions.

 

Engineering manager for WAP is a highly visible role vital to the development of the wireless product strategy. WAP team is responsible for delivering the best customer experience across all solutions allowing our customers to become more productive and efficient. As a management leader, you must have great team management skills with the ability to lead people, putting them in the right position for success, and ensuring the career development of each person. You must also excel at communication, collaboration, prioritization and accountability for solution delivery and adoption.

 

You will be responsible for the team defining, delivering, and optimizing Extreme’s controller wireless solutions. You’ll be working externally with customers and partners, and internally with all facets of engineering, product/project management, quality engineering and operations teams to ensure quality, security, and usability of the solutions.


Job Responsibilities:
  • Manages engineering team and assigns tasks to engineering and technical personnel.
  • Leads teams in the development of new products, solutions, and processes.
  • Contributes to product designs, feature implementation/testing and debugging customer issues.
  • Participates in requirement, design, code, and test plan reviews.
  • Oversees project logistics and resource allocation.
  • Strives to improve efficiency and sustainability of processes and product designs, and to reduce waste.
  • Expand the wireless team by recruiting and retaining best engineers.
  • Helps to create and oversee project budgets and engages in cost management strategies.
  • Advocates on behalf of team members by securing adequate resources for success.
  • Collaborates with other team leaders and departments.


Qualifications/Skills:
  • Management

  • You have at least 15 years of experience with 10+ years in software development and 3+ years in management.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferably in the fields of computer science, engineering, or mathematics
  • Personnel and project management skills
  • Leadership, team building, and mentoring skills
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills
  • Critical and strategic thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Flexibility including the ability to pivot and try new approaches when faced with challenges
  • Organizational, planning, and documentation skills
  • Proficiency using presentation software to explain complex information to non-technical management personnel and other stakeholders
  • Ability to work on multiple projects in various stages simultaneously
  • Experience with modern software development methodologies (Agile/Scrum or similar collaborative tools)

  • Technical

  • Must have strong technical background in software development
  • Strong knowledge of C/C++, Python programming and Bash like scripting languages
  • Good understanding of Linux operating system
  • Expert-level knowledge of networking technologies and concepts: LAN switching, routing, Ethernet and IP
  • Wireless networking knowledge is a plus: WLAN, IoT
  • Hands-on experience with GIT and GitHub

  • This position is based at our Thornhill (Toronto), Ontario site and is not budgeted for relocation.
