Job Description

PhonePe is seeking a Manager - Pricing to lead pricing strategy and execution. This role involves defining and implementing pricing policies to drive profitability and market competitiveness. Responsibilities include market and competitive benchmarking, price elasticity analysis, strategy definition, implementation, monitoring, promotion planning, stakeholder coordination, and reporting. The manager will also contribute to category portfolio strategy and operating plan targets, requiring a data-driven approach and cross-functional collaboration.
Must Have:
  • Lead pricing strategy and execution
  • Define and implement pricing policies that drive profitability
  • Monitor competitor pricing, promotions, and new product launches
  • Use data tools to collect and analyze market intelligence
  • Identify key items for price crawling and ensure data accuracy
  • Analyze price elasticity and demand; run experiments and A/B tests to optimize pricing and margins
  • Define pricing tiers, discounting policies, and dynamic pricing strategies
  • Ensure pricing updates are correctly reflected on platforms and monitor for errors
  • Plan and approve profitable promotions, coupons, and discounts
  • Collaborate with category managers, brand partnerships, finance, and other teams
  • Negotiate trade discounts and rebates with brands
  • Build dashboards to track key metrics like gross margin and promotional ROI
  • Provide regular reports on pricing performance and recommend actions
  • Analyze data to identify top-performing categories and evaluate market trends
  • Adjust product mix to align with strategic goals (Margin, Mix, Operating Plan, GMV)
  • Set up monthly and weekly targets for categories in line with business goals
  • Track and report on category performance to inform decision-making
  • Implement pricing-led campaigns and strategies that maximize profitability
  • 3-6 years of experience in e-commerce, FMCG, procurement, or key account management
  • Sharp analytical skills with proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Strong stakeholder management and negotiation skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Fair understanding of financial processes

Job Objective:

We are looking for a Manager - Pricing to lead our pricing strategy and execution. You will be responsible for defining and implementing pricing policies that drive profitability while remaining competitive in the market. This role requires a data-driven approach, a deep understanding of market dynamics, and a high level of cross-functional collaboration.

Role Brief

  • Market & Competitive Benchmarking: Regularly monitor competitor pricing, promotions, and new product launches across all online and offline channels. Use data tools to collect and analyze market intelligence.
  • Competitive Price Collection: Identify key items for price crawling and ensure the accuracy and coverage of data collected from third-party agencies.
  • Price Elasticity & Demand Analysis: Analyze how price changes affect demand for key products. Run experiments and A/B tests to optimize pricing and margins.
  • Pricing Strategy & Policy: Define pricing tiers, discounting policies, and dynamic pricing strategies based on factors like time of day, stock levels, and product perishability.
  • Implementation & Monitoring: Ensure all pricing updates are correctly reflected on platforms. Monitor for pricing errors and coordinate fixes.
  • Promotion & Discount Planning: Plan and approve profitable promotions, coupons, and discounts for everyday use and special events
  • Stakeholder Coordination: Collaborate with category managers, brand partnerships, finance, and other teams. Negotiate trade discounts and rebates with brands
  • Reporting & Insights: Build dashboards to track key metrics like gross margin and promotional ROI. Provide regular reports on pricing performance and recommend actions
  • Category Portfolio Strategy: Analyze data to identify top-performing categories, evaluate market trends and consumer preferences, and adjust the product mix to align with strategic goals (Margin, Mix, Operating Plan, GMV).
  • Operating Plan Targets: Set up monthly and weekly targets for categories in line with business goals.
  • Targets vs. Achievement: Track and report on category performance to inform decision-making.
  • Pricing: Implement pricing-led campaigns and strategies that maximize profitability while remaining competitive.

Skill Set:

  • Experience: 3-6 years of experience in e-commerce, FMCG, procurement, or key account management.
  • Analytical Skills: Sharp analytical skills with proficiency in Microsoft Excel to read data, spot patterns, and convert insights into action.
  • Communication & Collaboration: Strong stakeholder management and negotiation skills. Excellent written and verbal communication to drive alignment across cross-functional teams.
  • Financial Acumen: Fair understanding of financial processes to manage vendor payments and reconciliation efficiently.

Work Style: An independent contributor with a strong ownership-first approach, willing to roll up sleeves and execute end-to-end.
