This Mechanical Engineer IV role involves working within a project team under the guidance of senior engineers and managers. The engineer will utilize their experience and education to perform mechanical engineering activities, solve complex problems, and make technical decisions. Key responsibilities include adhering to company policies, using engineering concepts, and collaborating with team members. The role requires experience in areas like Solidworks, plastics design, and manufacturing processes. The engineer will also provide mentoring to other engineers.
Must have:
  • B.S. in Engineering or Equivalent.
  • 10 years of experience in related field.
Good to have:
  • Experience with Solidworks.
  • Experience with Plastics design.
  • Experience with Optics design.
  • Experience with Sheet metal design.
  • Experience with Heat Transfer.
  • Experience with Molding Processes.
  • Experience with Materials (e.g. plastics, aluminum, copper, steel, etc.).
  • Experience with Pneumatics.
  • Experience with Machining (esp. CNC).
  • Experience with GD&T.
  • Experience with Six Sigma/Lean/SPC.
  • Experience with Manufacturing processes.
  • Experience with Statistical analysis.

Job Details

Position Summary

This engineer works within a project team – generally under the leadership of a principal engineer, systems

engineer, engineering manager, and/or project manager. This engineer uses experience and education to

perform the types of engineering activities which are generally considered within the realm of mechanical

engineering and any other expertise that might be held by this particular individual. This engineer is expected

to work and communicate well with other team members and leadership as assigned in order to meet the goals

of the project, the department, and the company.

 

Primary Duties

  • Perform all work in compliance with company policy and within the guidelines of BioFire Diagnostics’ Quality System.
  • General: uses experience and education to perform the types of engineering activities which are generally considered within the realm of mechanical engineering.
  • Description: Uses engineering concepts, company SOPs/WIDs, department SOPs/WIDs to solve a variety of complex engineering problems across functional groups and disciplines.
  • Works on: problems of significant scope and complexity. Generally works on a team with other engineers.
  • Influence: receives limited oversight from a Principal Engineer, usually is a discipline lead on a project, provides mentoring for other engineers, and provides department management and leadership.
  • Makes design and technical decisions subject to review by Senior, Principal, and other engineers.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Training, Education, Experience

  • B.S. in Engineering or Equivalent.
  • 10 years of experience in related field, including performance consistent with said experience.
  • Experience with the following is preferred:

    1. Solidworks

    2. Plastics design

    3. Optics design

    4. Sheet metal design

    5. Heat Transfer

    6. Molding Processes

    7. Materials (e.g. plastics, aluminum, copper, steel, etc.)

    8. Pneumatics

    9. Machining (esp. CNC)

    10. GD&T

    11. Six Sigma/Lean/SPC

    12. Manufacturing processes

    13. Statistical analysis

 

Working Conditions

  • Ability to remain in stationary position, often standing, for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to adjust or move objects up to 50 pounds in all directions.
  • Travel: minimal travel required
  • Team: usually works on a team with several engineers and a project manager.
