Job Description
As a MicroStrategy Manager at Privia, you'll be a vital part of our Corporate Analytics team. You'll lead development efforts for tools created on our MicroStrategy BI platform, independently driving projects from requirements gathering and translating business needs into functional specifications, to creating tasks in DevOps for team members. This role also involves hands-on development contributions, including MicroStrategy report and dashboard creation, schema development, and administration tasks. You'll also collaborate closely with Privia's IT, Data Engineering, and Product Development teams on data layer interdependencies.
This is a project leadership role without direct reports or people management responsibilities. We're seeking a highly skilled MicroStrategy engineer with extensive platform experience and strong leadership abilities. The ideal candidate will have a deep technical understanding of MicroStrategy, excels at translating business requirements into clear technical documentation, and has experience with effectively leading projects independently.
Primary Job Duties:
As a MicroStrategy Manager, you will be instrumental in leading and executing critical analytical initiatives. Your responsibilities will include:
Solution Design & Development:
- Translate Business Needs to Technical Requirements: Collaborate with stakeholders and end-users independently to deeply understand business needs and objectives, translating them into technical design specifications
- Document and Share Meeting Notes: Ensure accurate meeting notes are taken and distributed promptly after each session. This practice confirms understanding of requirements and assures participants their input was captured.
- Lead Technical Solutioning: Drive the design and development of technical solutions, proactively identifying potential risks, and proposing alternative approaches to leadership for consideration
- Project Planning & Management: Develop comprehensive project plans for significant reporting initiatives, including the creation of tasks containing detailed requirements within DevOps
- Requirements Clarification & Alignment: Proactively engage with team members to ensure alignment on requirements and provide necessary clarifications
- Documentation: Generate thorough technical solution documentation for design, training, and ongoing support
- Drive Innovation: Propose solutions and enhancements by leveraging the latest capabilities across our technical stack (MicroStrategy, GCP, and Snowflake)
- Facilitate Team Discussions: When asked to do so, lead daily stand-ups, document status updates, and assist in clarifying blockers.
MicroStrategy Development, & Administration:
- Schema & Application Object Development: Create and help maintain MicroStrategy schema objects (e.g., Attributes, Facts, Hierarchies, Tables, Views) and application objects (e.g., Metrics, Filters, Templates)
- Advanced Reporting: Create sophisticated reporting objects such as Level Metrics, Consolidations, Custom Groups, Datamart Reports, and FreeForm SQL Reports when needed to fulfill complex requirements
- Reporting Solution Delivery: Develop robust reporting solutions leveraging MicroStrategy Dossiers, Report Services Documents (RSDs), Cubes, Reports, and Transaction Services
- Platform Management: Perform migrations using Object Manager and help manage roles, user groups, folders, events, subscriptions, and projects within the MicroStrategy environment
- Upgrade Planning & Testing: Plan and manage comprehensive testing efforts for MicroStrategy Cloud Environment (MCE) platform upgrades, including major and minor patch releases
Support, Analysis, & Training:
- User Support & Troubleshooting: Provide support to end-users by fielding questions and troubleshooting production issues and defects
- Data Analysis & Presentation: Analyze complex data sets and present findings in a clear, consumable format for business users
- User Training: When requested, lead training sessions and bi-weekly Office Hours for end-users to maximize their utilization of the platform
- Cross-Team Collaboration: Submit support tickets as needed and assist IT, Access, Data Engineering, and Product Engineering teams by providing necessary details for issue troubleshooting and enhancement requests
Team Collaboration & Best Practices:
- Peer Reviews: Conduct thorough peer reviews of work products developed within MicroStrategy and provide feedback in a clear and concise manner
- Mentorship: Mentor and guide other team members on MicroStrategy development best practices
- Architectural Collaboration: Work collaboratively with team members to design and implement optimal, maintainable, and scalable solutions
- Performance Optimization: Provide recommendations for performance improvements to ensure optimal runtimes
Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience with translating business requirements into reporting solutions
- Demonstrated experience with managing analytical projects from start to finish
- Highly proficient in writing and understanding SQL
- Experience with cloud data warehouses, such as Snowflake
- 5+ years of experience with MicroStrategy project architecture and schema design
- 5+ years of experience with MicroStrategy Dossier (Dashboard), Report Services Document (RSD), and Report development
- 5+ years of experience with MicroStrategy Transaction Services and Freeform SQL development
- Experience with Platform Analytics, Integrity Manager, Command Manager, and Object Manager
- Experience with MicroStrategy Administration including user creation, security roles, and performance tuning
- MicroStrategy Certified Developer or MicroStrategy Certified Engineer credentials is preferred
- MicroStrategy MCE experience is preferred
- Bachelor’s in IT or quantitative field is preferred
- MicroStrategy SDK experience is a plus, but not required
- Experience in a healthcare is preferred, but not required
