Digital Extremes is seeking an experienced Payroll Manager for a 1-year contract to oversee Canadian and US payroll. Responsibilities include accurate bi-weekly processing, compliance with legislation, and managing payroll filings and records. The role requires a highly organized self-starter with exceptional attention to detail, capable of adapting to a rapidly growing company across multiple jurisdictions. The manager will also collaborate with Finance and HR, streamline processes, and provide team mentorship.
Must have:
  • Manage bi-weekly payroll processing for Canadian and US employees.
  • Prepare and review periodic payroll filings (T4s, W2s, EHT, worker’s compensation).
  • Review and record journal entries; perform monthly reporting and reconciliations.
  • Validate source deductions and address discrepancies.
  • Maintain and safeguard organized payroll records.
  • Ensure payroll practices comply with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Monitor and advise management on legislative changes.
  • Evaluate workflows and implement continuous improvements.
  • Collaborate with Finance and Human Resources on policies.
  • Register for payroll accounts in new jurisdictions.
  • Provide mentorship and coaching to the payroll team.
  • Resolve payroll escalations and issues.
  • Manage setup and maintenance of the Dayforce payroll system.
  • Assist with audits, ad-hoc projects, and reporting.
  • Post-secondary degree/diploma in Payroll, HR, Business or related field.
  • Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) designation.
  • Excellent knowledge of payroll legislation and compliance.
  • 5+ years of payroll management experience.
  • Experience with Dayforce or similar payroll systems.
  • Experience with payroll accounting and journal entries.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel.

ABOUT THIS POSITION

Digital Extremes is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Payroll Manager on a 1-year contract to oversee all aspects of payroll for our Canadian and US employees. You will be responsible for ensuring timely and accurate payroll processing while maintaining compliance with relevant legislation and company policies. The ideal candidate is a highly organized self-starter with exceptional attention to detail. You will leverage your experience to adapt and evolve with the needs of our rapidly growing company across multiple jurisdictions.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage and ensure accuracy of bi-weekly payroll processing for all Canadian and US employees including the preparation of necessary reports and administration of bonuses, share-based compensation, RRSP and SIMPLE IRA contributions, and other taxable benefits.
  • Prepare and review periodic payroll filings including T4s, W2s, EHT, worker’s compensation return, and others in Canada and the US.
  • Review and record journal entries and perform monthly reporting and account reconciliations between payroll and the general ledger.
  • Validate source deductions and address any discrepancies, including reconciliations of payments, government filings and balances.
  • Maintain and safeguard payroll records in an organized manner, ensuring complete and accurate documentation.
  • Ensure payroll practices and policies are compliant with applicable laws and regulations across multiple provinces and states.
  • Monitor and advise management of any relevant changes to legislation along with a recommended course of action to maintain compliance.
  • Evaluate workflows and implement continuous improvements to streamline processes and improve documentation and controls.
  • Collaborate with Finance and Human Resources to interpret, implement and enforce internal policies and processes.
  • Register for payroll accounts in new jurisdictions as required, ensuring benefits and tax deductions are consistent with jurisdictional requirements and laws.
  • Provide mentorship and coaching to the payroll team.
  • Resolve escalations for payroll issues and ensure timely remediation of issues.
  • Manage setup and maintenance of the payroll system (Dayforce).
  • Assist with audits, ad-hoc projects, and reporting as required.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma with a focus on Payroll, Human Resources, Business or related field.
  • Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) designation required; Payroll Leadership Professional (PLP) is a strong asset.
  • Excellent knowledge of payroll legislation and compliance requirements. Experience with both Canadian and US payroll is strongly preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in payroll management.
  • Experience with Dayforce or similar systems.
  • Experience with payroll accounting and journal entries.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel with a demonstrated ability to prepare detailed reports, as well as evaluate and summarize data.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
  • Superior organizational and problem solving skills.
  • A dedicated, proactive individual with a positive attitude and a growth mindset for continuous improvement.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with a diverse group of people.
  • Ability to work independently with a strong sense of urgency, without sacrificing quality.
