Job Description

Extreme Networks is seeking a Premier Services Resident Engineer (PRE) to provide dedicated service and support for Extreme Networks products and solutions. The PRE will join a customer team in Japan, working full-time with highly skilled and experienced engineers. This role requires extensive technical knowledge, troubleshooting abilities, planning skills, and excellent customer interaction. The PRE acts as a 'trusted advisor' to the customer, ensuring high-quality implementation of Extreme Network's product suite and meeting customer functional requirements.
Good To Have:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • Network-related certifications (CCNA, CISSP, CCIE, CWTS/CWNA, etc.)
  • Organizational and time management skills to handle multiple challenges
  • Ability to act proactively and perform duties with minimal supervision
  • Experience with Extreme Network products and solutions
  • English language skills
Must Have:
  • Provide full-time network design, implementation, and support to designated customers
  • Act as a technical leader and trusted advisor to customers
  • Participate in regular customer meetings to prioritize scheduled activities
  • Perform on-site troubleshooting for L2/3 switches, SD-WAN, and integrated management product issues
  • Assist customers in resolving issues through lab reproduction testing, detailed investigation, and verification of engineering team provided patches
  • Analyze and resolve problems using existing problem databases, debugging tools, and lab simulations
  • Collaborate with Extreme Global Technical Assistance Center (GTAC) until problem resolution
  • Provide product training to customers
  • Create and explain bug reports to customers
  • Create and explain vulnerability reports to customers
  • Coordinate between sales, PLM (Product Management), engineering, GTAC (as needed), and customers during implementation and operation phases
  • Collaborate with Extreme partners and sales teams to implement Extreme solutions and provide knowledge transfer
  • Be proficient in the entire Extreme product suite

A Premier Services Resident Engineer (PRE) is a dedicated resource providing service and support for Extreme Networks products and solutions.

Role of a Premier Resident Engineer

Extreme's Premier Resident Engineers (PREs) join customer teams in Japan, working full-time with highly skilled and experienced engineers. The PRE role requires a wide range of technical knowledge, troubleshooting abilities, planning skills, and excellent customer interaction. PREs serve as 'trusted advisors' to customers. The mission of a PRE is to ensure high-quality implementation of the Extreme Network product suite and meet customer functional requirements.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide full-time network design, implementation, and support to designated customers.
  • Act as a technical leader and trusted advisor to customers.

  • Assist customers in resolving issues by performing lab reproduction tests, detailed problem investigations, and verifying corrective patches provided by the engineering team.
  • Analyze and resolve problems using existing problem databases, debugging tools, and lab simulations.
  • Collaborate with the Extreme Global Technical Assistance Center (GTAC) to support problem resolution.
  • Provide product training to customers.
  • Create and explain bug reports to customers.
  • Create and explain vulnerability reports to customers.
  • Act as a liaison between sales, PLM (Product Management), engineering, GTAC (as needed), and customers during the implementation and operation phases.
  • Collaborate with Extreme partners and sales teams to implement Extreme solutions and provide knowledge transfer as needed.
  • Be proficient in the entire Extreme product suite.

Application Requirements

  • Frequent use of Japanese (business level required).
  • Deep knowledge of one of the following network technologies:
  • Switching/Routing
  • SD-WAN
  • Possess expertise in network technology and have industry and regional experience (5+ years of experience).
  • Ability to develop implementation plans according to Extreme Premier Services PDIO (Plan/Design/Implementation/Operation) methodology, clearly defining high-level architectural diagrams, functional requirements, customer prerequisites, configurations, deliverables, and timelines.
  • Definition of UAT (User Acceptance Testing) and functional verification criteria based on MOP (Method of Procedure).
  • Ability to design, troubleshoot, and solve problems in a network environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience (recommended).
  • Network-related certifications (CCNA, CISSP, CCIE, CWTS/CWNA, etc.) are a plus.
  • Organizational and time management skills to handle multiple challenges.
  • Ability to act proactively and perform duties with minimal supervision.
  • Experience with Extreme Network products and solutions is a plus.
  • English language skills are a plus.
