Job Summary
Ethernovia is seeking a Principal Embedded Software Engineer to lead the development of cutting-edge networking device software for automotive applications. This role involves designing, implementing, and testing core software, including embedded firmware, kernel/user mode device drivers, and stack extensions. The engineer will contribute to safety-critical automotive applications, ensuring robust and reliable software while adhering to stringent functional safety standards. The company is transforming in-vehicle networks with end-to-end Ethernet systems for autonomous driving and EVs.
Must Have
- Lead architecture, design, implementation, testing, and integration of networking device software stack.
- Develop embedded firmware for communication devices, interacting with host systems.
- Design and implement device drivers for user applications and operating systems.
- Develop and implement automated unit and system tests.
- Contribute to firmware for safety-critical automotive applications, adhering to functional safety standards.
- Proficient in C/C++ Programming Language.
- Minimum 10+ years of relevant experience in embedded software development.
- Strong understanding of Software Development Lifecycle.
- Extensive experience with Firmware, preferably for communication devices like Ethernet.
- Strong experience with Embedded firmware, particularly for communication devices like Ethernet.
- Proven experience with integration and testing of firmware and low-level code.
- Hands-on experience with hardware and embedded processors.
- Expertise in efficient code practices for code footprint and performance.
Good to Have
- Experience with simulation and emulation platforms.
- Experience with GNU or similar compiler and debugging suites.
- Embedded programming with hardware buses like I2C, SPI, Ethernet, and USB.
- Building Automotive or safety-critical systems using qualification methods/processes like MISRA, ASPICE, and ISO26262.
- Experience with communication protocols like Ethernet MAC, PHY, Switching, TCP/IP, Security, Serdes, PCIe, NTB, and SR-IOV.
- Experience with video processing standards and protocols.
- Experience with Code Version Control and Review tools/processes (e.g., Perforce/Git, Swarm).
- Experience with Mixed-Signal systems (Analog, Digital, Digital Signal Processing (DSP)).
- Experience with ARM family of processors or similar embedded processors.
- Experience with Bootloaders like uboot or similar.

As a Principal Embedded Software Engineer, you will be a key player in designing, implementing, and testing the core software for Ethernovia's networking devices. What You'll Do:
- Lead the architecture, design, implementation, testing, and integration of Ethernovia's networking device software stack, including Embedded Firmware, kernel/user mode device drivers, stack extensions, debug, and test utilities.
- Develop firmware that configures, controls, and monitors communication devices, interacting with host systems via device drivers to expose hardware features. This may also involve developing standalone firmware libraries within device drivers.
- Design and implement device drivers that enable user applications, middleware, and operating systems to fully leverage our feature-rich hardware.
- Develop and implement automated unit and system tests to ensure robust and reliable software.
- Contribute to the development of firmware built from the ground up for safety-critical automotive applications, adhering to stringent functional safety standards.
- Actively participate in a culture of safety and best development practices, ensuring all work meets rigorous quality and compliance standards.
What You Bring:
Technical Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science/software or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum 10+ years of relevant experience in embedded software development.
- Software Development Lifecycle: Strong understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle, including Architecture, Implementation, and Testing fundamentals.
- Programming Expertise: Proficient in C/C++ Programming Language. Experience in Python is a plus.
- Firmware Development: Extensive experience with Firmware, preferably for communication devices like Ethernet.
