This Principal Engineer role at Intel Government Technologies leads the design, development, and testing of digital signal processing algorithms and intelligent radar/radio solutions for government customers. Responsibilities include architecting end-to-end systems, defining hardware/software interfaces, and integrating advanced technologies like multi-dimensional chiplets and AI/ML for security and performance. The role requires a PhD in electrical or computer engineering with 10+ years of technical leadership experience in circuits, hardware architecture, DSP, and radio systems, along with US Citizenship and the ability to obtain a security clearance. This position involves influencing technical direction and mentoring other leaders.
Must have:
  • Architect and design end-to-end intelligent radar/radio solutions for government market segment.
  • Define radar/radio system architecture, hardware, software, and firmware interfaces, protocols, and algorithms.
  • Work closely with government customers to develop technical solutions addressing their mission needs.
  • Provide technical direction for radio/radar solutions development and validation, including RnD strategies.
  • Partner with Intel-wide product, RnD, and foundry teams for customized radio/radar systems solutions.
  • Integrate novel, emerging, and established technologies from Intel and the ecosystem.
  • Be recognized as a domain expert influencing technical direction across Intel government customers and industry.
  • Develop and mentor other technical leaders, growing the community and acting as a change agent.
  • Manage the intelligent radar/radio solutions organization, aligning goals with technical vision.
  • Oversee important buying and spending decisions around key tools and technologies.
  • PhD degree in electrical engineering or computer engineering with strong technical expertise.
  • 10+ years of experience in technical leadership roles, driving highly matrixed projects and teams.
  • US Citizenship required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a US Government Security Clearance.

Job Description:

Intel Government Technologies (IGT) is a wholly owned subsidiary responsible for managing business with Governments Worldwide. We collaborate across to develop and execute programs for Government agencies. Intel Government Technologies works with and across the ecosystem to deliver mission solutions to Government customers.

This role designs, develops, codes, and tests digital signal processing algorithms, solutions, and system models. May also be responsible for the development of physical systems to support digital signal processing in compliance with external specifications. Researches and develops DSP algorithm specifications for emerging technologies and products and contributes to the standardization and definition of such techniques with external standard bodies. May include the research and adoption of machine learning and other AI applications to improve performance and user experience. Defines algorithm blocks, performs algorithm tuning and validation, and creates novel ideas to meet system requirements. Creates prototypes of the algorithm and optimizes the design for power and performance goals in different stages of product development. Runs DSP algorithms simulation using advanced simulation tools while performing basic tradeoffs on power, die size, and performance. Develops validation test plans and writes scripts to assist validation of algorithm implementation into the larger system. Implements DSP primitives and subsystems in RTL. Defines and documents system and component requirements for algorithm performance based on system requirements. Root causes and troubleshoots algorithm performance issues. Collaborates with digital architecture designers to translate models to hardware design and various stakeholders to develop the technical roadmap with the latest industry best practices and innovative solutions for the future. As a principal engineer, recognized as a domain expert who influences and drives technical direction across industry. Develops and mentors other technical leaders, grows the community, acts as a change agent, and role models values. Aligns organizational goals with technical vision, formulates technical strategy to deliver leadership solutions, and demonstrates a track record of relentless execution in bringing products and technologies to market.

This role will provide intelligent radio and radar solutions leadership and manage an engineering team creating RF to baseband circuits, reconfigurable intelligent architectures, and systems that meet the unique requirements of Government customers. Projects may include enhanced commercial-off-the-shelf (eCOTS), semi-custom, and fully custom hardware, firmware, and software, including multi-dimensional chiplet based solutions accompanied by standardized die-to-die interfaces and advanced packaging technologies, enabling integration of internally and externally developed technologies. All solutions may require enablement of security leveraging advanced post-quantum cryptography and intelligent adaptation leveraging AI/ML.

Responsibilities include:

  • Architect and design of the end-to-end intelligent radar/radio solutions for IGT product/platforms targeting the government market segment, including design of multi-dimensional chiplets, die-to-die I/Os, circuits, software, and firmware.
  • Define the radar/radio system architecture, hardware, software, and firmware interfaces, protocols, algorithms, and applications across market-specific requirements and needs. Partner with external engineering services and EDA tool providers to deliver programs as required.
  • Work closely with government customers to develop technical solutions that address their mission needs. Interact with technologists across and within the industry to evaluate feasibility of requirements and determine priorities for development.
  • Responsible for pathfinding and providing the technical direction for radio/radar solutions development and validation. This includes shaping IGT's radar/radio solutions and RnD technical strategies, setting and executing a radar/radio solution roadmap to deliver longer-term business goals.
  • Partner with product, RnD, and foundry teams to define and execute customized IGT radio/radar systems solutions. Integrate across novel, emerging, and established technologies from and the ecosystem to meet customers' mission requirements. This may include re-using an existing radar/radio product for eCOTS customization, re-using algorithms/hardware/software/firmware or supported radio solutions, or collaborating with Corp engineering teams.
  • Be recognized as a domain expert who influences and drives technical direction across government customers and industry.
  • Develop and mentor other technical leaders, grow the community, act as a change agent, and role models values. Build the intelligent radar/radio solutions engineering talent to meet IGT market segment demands.
  • Manage the IGT intelligent radar/radio solutions organization. Align organizational goals with technical vision, formulate the technical strategy to deliver leadership solutions, and demonstrate a track record of relentless execution in bringing products and technologies to market. Be diligent on cash flow and oversee important buying and spending decisions around key tools and technologies.
  • Proven success in architecting multi-dimensional chiplet based radio/radar solutions across multiple production systems.
  • Proven examples of deep customer engagements that defined efficient and effective chiplet based radio/radar solutions satisfying customer requirements.
  • Multiple successfully completed projects leading the definition of the structure, protocols, algorithms and/or applications for intelligent radar/radio solutions
  • Experience with domain area applications and relevant systems solutions and products.
  • Multiple examples of mentoring and developing technical leaders and building talent.
  • Excellently demonstrated written and verbal communications skills
  • Willing and able to hold a USA security clearance
  • Willing to travel domestically and internationally

Minimum Qualifications:

Candidates must possess the minimum required qualifications noted below to be considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to minimum requirements and are considered in identifying top candidates.

  • US Citizenship required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a US Government Security Clearance
  • PhD degree in electrical engineering or computer engineering field with strong technical expertise in circuits, hardware architecture, digital signal processing, radio circuits, and 2.5D/3D heterogeneous integration, including chiplet based architectures and die-to-die I/Os.
  • 10+ years of experience working in the above domain expertise technical leadership role, including driving and influencing highly matrixed projects and teams.

Preferred Qualification

  • Active US Government Security Clearance, with a minimum of Secret level
  • Demonstrated know-how of rules and regulations associated with engaging in direct to Government activities and work
  • 15+ years of experience working in a radio or radar or wireless or 2.5D/3D chiplet technical leadership role, including driving and influencing highly matrixed projects and teams.
  • Diverse mulit-dimensional chiplet and radio/radar engineering expertise across multiple processing domains (e.g., FPGA, high-performance computing, edge computing and sensing)
  • Extensive engineering expertise with silicon, hardware and software products
  • Proven ability to deliver secure and AI/ML wireless frameworks and optimization for products.
  • Proven track record of leading engineering organizations for 5+ years with annual budget scope of at least 5M USD in labor costs.
  • Proven record of accomplishment defining and executing products for Government customers
  • Demonstrated experience in customizing wireless systems for performance optimization
