What Product Management is like at Gusto:
- We’re looking for high-autonomy, entrepreneurial Product Managers to come build high-impact solutions for small businesses and their employees. We believe in high-ownership Product Managers who operate like business owners - owning an entire roadmap end to end and shipping product all the way from strategy through to the nitty gritty details (some describe this kind of role as a “GM” type role).
- Our Product team is lean, which means you’ll have a high degree of impact and ownership.
- We’re here to serve small and medium businesses. Gusto has a strong mission-driven culture, and we care deeply about lifting up these business owners.
About the Team:
The AI Platform’s mission is to build AI Agents that make small business owners 10x more powerful. This team operates as a startup-within-a-startup, led by Gusto’s co-founder/Head of Technology. Gusto is looking for a Product Manager to lead research and development for Gusto’s AI chat assistant.
Here’s what you’ll do day-to-day:
- Ownership: Lead the product roadmap and execution for the architecture for Gusto’s agentic, conversational assistant – Gus. This includes R&D on the latest GenAI developments (e.g. frontier models, MCP, context engineering) and applying them to enable feature teams to teach Gus new skills.
- North Star: Make our customers and users more efficient via Gus. Expand Gus’s functionality by enabling feature teams to apply the latest GenAI technologies.
- Collaborate: Lead your pod of engineering, applied AI, and design to execute the vision for Gus. Collaborate with leadership stakeholders and subject matter experts to expand Gus functionality.
Here’s what we're looking for:
- 8+ years of product and related experience (engineering etc). Entrepreneurship experience and bringing conversational assistants to market a plus.
- Passion for AI and its transformational potential. But also pragmatic in applying it for customer and business benefit.
- Experience in defining and tracking key performance indicators (KPIs) for AI products and using evals to drive product improvements.
- Bias to action. Ships to learn, yet can strategically sequence learnings.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to effectively articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Comfortable making decisions and executing in rapidly-changing environments with unknown unknowns.
- Can think strategically about how AI integrated into products for a cohesive user experience, including up and downstream processes.
If you don't think you meet all of the criteria above but still are interested in the job, please apply. Nobody checks every box, and we're looking for someone excited to join the team.
