Microsoft's Windows Silicon & Systems Integration team seeks a Principal Software Engineer for Camera Drivers. This role involves developing kernel and user-mode drivers, optimizing driver stacks, and enhancing camera and camera effect experiences. Close collaboration with silicon architects, IHVs, OEMs, and other teams is crucial. We are seeking a talented Principal Software Engineer - Camera Drivers - with experience in Windows camera driver development to actively contribute toward the delivery of high quality, compelling Windows experiences on first generation silicon.  This position will involve partnering closely with silicon architects, IHVs, OEMs, Windows OS platform teams, Microsoft’s Applied Sciences Group, and other teams to deliver end-to-end optimized device experiences for camera and camera effects.  

 

An understanding of software lifecycle in a device development environment and the interplay between software and hardware development and scheduled will be a requirement for this role.  Key responsibilities for this position include development of kernel and user mode drivers, optimization of driver stacks with Windows OS components and driving performance, stability and feature enhancements for the device level experiences aligned with IHV silicon roadmaps and Microsoft strategies.  Come join us as we scale up our organization to meet the challenges of creating new and innovative experiences and delivering devices that people love.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science / electrical engineering or related technical field AND 6+ technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C and C++  
  • OR Equivalent Experience 
  • 4+ years Windows OS fundamentals and Camera Driver development. 
  • 4+ years coding in C/C++ developing firmware and/or device drivers 
  • 4+ years’ experience working with and debugging hardware/firmware/software interactions  

 

Additional or Preferred Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or electrical engineering 
  • OR related technical field AND 10+ technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C and C++  
  • OR master’s degree in computer science, Electrical Engineering or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C and C++  
  • OR equivalent experience.  
  • 6+ years coding in C/C++ developing firmware and/or device drivers  
  • 6+ years’ experience working with and debugging hardware/firmware/software interactions.  
  • 2+ years’ experience mentoring engineering team members  
  • Familiarity with System on Chip (SOC) hardware architecture and software for SOC, particularly Image Signal Processors (ISPs) 
  • Experience with Windows camera driver development  for MIPI cameras 
  • Ability to quickly ramp up on complex and unfamiliar code  
  • Proven track record of shipping high volume consumer devices  

 

Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.

  • Partners with appropriate internal and external stakeholders to determine requirements for features and scenarios, including Enhance Secure Sign-on (ESS), Secure Kernel and Trustlets. 
  • Leads the identification of dependencies and the development of design documents for features.  
  • Leads by example and mentors others to produce extensible and maintainable code used across products.
