This Principal UX Designer role at Progress involves leading and executing design vision for digital products, reporting to the Manager of UX. The position requires deep expertise in UX design combined with front-end technology knowledge. The designer will guide product teams to deliver intuitive, scalable, and accessible experiences, bridging the gap between design and development for seamless collaboration across UX, product, and engineering teams. Responsibilities include owning UX strategy, partnering with product and engineering, mentoring designers, and advocating for user-centered design.
Must have:
  • Own and drive end-to-end UX strategy for multiple key infrastructure products.
  • Partner with product managers and engineers to define product direction.
  • Lead and mentor designers, setting best practices in UX, interaction design, and design systems.
  • Use Figma to design, prototype, and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Collaborate closely with engineers to ensure smooth implementation of designs.
  • Contribute to the development and adoption of the design system.
  • Translate complex user needs and workflows into simple, elegant design solutions.
  • Advocate for accessibility, usability, and user-centered design.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating expertise in user-centered, interaction, and visual design.
  • Solid understanding of front-end development practices.
  • Hands-on coding ability in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and React.
  • Ability to prototype and test ideas using modern design and prototyping tools.
  • Strong communication and storytelling skills.
  • Experience working with agile product teams in fast-paced environments.
  • Experience with design tokens, theming, or scalable design systems.

We are looking for a Principal UX Designer to lead and deliver design vision and execution across various digital products. Reporting to the Manager of UX, this role combines deep expertise in user experience design with hands-on knowledge of front-end technologies. As a design leader, you will guide product teams in delivering intuitive, scalable, and accessible experiences that delight users and drive business outcomes. Your ability to bridge the gap between design and development will be key to creating seamless collaboration between UX, product, and engineering teams.

In this role, you will:

  • Own and drive the end-to-end UX strategy for multiple key infrastructure products setting the standard for design quality and innovation.
  • Partner with product managers and engineers to define product direction, balancing user needs, technical feasibility, and business goals.
  • Lead and mentor designers, setting best practices in UX, interaction design, and design systems.
  • Use Figma to design, prototype, and collaborate with cross-functional teams in real time.
  • Collaborate closely with engineers to ensure smooth implementation of designs, providing guidance on interaction patterns and front-end integration.
  • Contribute to the development and adoption of the design system, ensuring consistency and scalability across applications.
  • Translate complex user needs and workflows into simple, elegant design solutions.
  • Advocate for accessibility, usability, and user-centered design throughout the product development lifecycle.

Your background:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Computer Science, Graphic Design, or Product Design is preferred. Equivalent professional experience, typically 6-8 years in UX/product design, including 2–3 years in a senior or principal-level role - will also be considered.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating expertise in user-centered design, interaction design, and visual design.
  • Solid understanding of front-end development practices; experience with React is a strong plus.
  • Hands-on coding ability in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and React is highly desired.
  • Ability to prototype and test ideas using modern design and prototyping tools.
  • Strong communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Experience working with agile product teams in fast-paced environments.
  • Experience with design tokens, theming, or scalable design systems.
