An exciting opportunity for a Safety & Reliability Engineer within the Civil Aerospace division in Derby. This role involves assessing and influencing product safety and reliability attributes of Civil Aerospace engine products throughout their lifecycle. Key responsibilities include evaluating propulsion system safety, performing numerical analysis, investigating component failures, and building safety cases for new engine programs. The position requires a STEM degree and experience in a relevant engineering environment, with a focus on analytical problem-solving and knowledge of safety & reliability techniques.
Must have:
  • Assess and influence product safety & reliability attributes of Civil Aerospace engine products.
  • Ensure Safety & Reliability attributes are understood and risks are managed.
  • Evaluate propulsion system safety using FMECA, Fault Tree, and Event Tree analysis.
  • Perform numerical analysis of in-service products using probabilistic and statistical data.
  • Analyze and quantify risks associated with human / system interaction, including Human Reliability Assessment.
  • Investigate and review failed components to derive root cause.
  • Feed back lessons learned from service findings to influence future product design.
  • Build safety cases for new and future engine programmes.
  • Support and influence decision making through sound engineering and numerical reasoning.
  • Implement the Safety Management System, including membership of Product Safety Review Boards.
  • Contribute to evaluation and exploitation of new capability in Safety & Reliability.

Safety & Reliability Engineer

Full Time

Derby - Hybrid – minimum 3 days on site per week

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Safety & Reliability Engineer to join our team within the Civil Aerospace division in Derby.

In this role, you will execute activities to assess and influence product safety & reliability attributes of our Civil Aerospace engine products.

What you will be doing:

As a Safety & Reliability engineer you will ensure that the Safety & Reliability attributes of our Civil Aerospace products, through all phases of their lifecycle, are understood and the risks arising from them are managed to an acceptable level. Tasks will include:

  • Evaluation of propulsion system safety using techniques such as Failure Modes Effects & Criticality Analysis (FMECA), Fault Tree and Event Tree analysis.
  • Numerical analysis of in-service products utilising probabilistic and statistical data analysis.
  • Analysing and quantifying risks associated with human / system interaction including Human Reliability Assessment.
  • Investigating and reviewing failed components and deriving root cause.
  • Feeding back lessons learnt from service findings to influence future product design.
  • Helping to build the safety cases for new and future engine programmes.
  • Supporting and influencing decision making through sound engineering and numerical reasoning.
  • Implementing the Safety Management System including membership of the Product Safety Review Boards.
  • Contributing towards evaluation and exploitation of new and emerging capability in the field of Safety & Reliability.

  • Qualification to degree level in a STEM subject and with experience in a relevant engineering environment (Mechanical, Aeronautical, etc).
  • Good holistic approach to problem solving
  • Analytical and logical approach.
  • Familiarity with the design, operation and environment of gas turbine engines.
  • Knowledge / experience of Safety & Reliability engineering techniques including numerical analysis.
