Job Description

As a Senior Character/Animation Specialist at AGBO, you'll create fluid, expressive character animations for real-time, networked gameplay, focusing on melee combat systems. You'll collaborate with various teams to ensure animations align with gameplay, using Unreal Engine 5 and its animation tools. Responsibilities include implementing high-quality animations, defining animation standards and workflows, and contributing to a unified pipeline. Position Summary:
As a Senior Character / Animation Specialist, you’ll be at the heart of our gameplay experience. You’ll implement fluid, expressive, and technically robust character animations that define how it feels to move, fight, and interact in our world. Your work will directly contribute to making our characters iconic, memorable, and instantly recognizable in motion. This is a hybrid role with the potential to collaborate across departments, supporting unified character direction and shared pipelines. This is a high-impact role on an ambitious team creating something special and exciting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement and polish high-quality character animations for real-time, networked gameplay – especially melee combat systems.
  • Collaborate closely with combat, design, and engineering teams to ensure animations support gameplay intent, timing, and responsiveness.
  • Work within Unreal Engine 5 to manage animation blueprints, state machines, and blend spaces.
  • Help define animation standards, tools, and workflows for characters and creatures.
  • Contribute to the development of a consistent and unified character animation pipeline across departments.


Qualifications & Skills:

  • 5+ years of experience in character animation and / or technical animation roles, ideally in networked or combat-focused games, bonus if you helped grow and maintain a live service game.
  • Deep understanding of gameplay animation pipelines in Unreal Engine, including animation blueprints and real-time implementation.
  • Strong knowledge of melee combat timing, character responsiveness, and gameplay feel.
  • A keen eye for motion, personality, and performance in animated characters.
  • Cross-disciplinary collaboration skills and the ability to solve both creative and technical animation challenges.
  • Experience working on multiplayer or networked action games.
  • Familiarity with the Gameplay Ability System (GAS) in Unreal.
  • Comfort with rigging or character setup in a production environment.
  • Bonus: Previous experience at a startup or on early-phase projects.
  • Bonus: An interest in film, cross-medium storytelling, or experimental gameplay.


The typical base salary for this position ranges from $125,000-$155,000 annually. Actual offers will be determined based on experience. These values reflect the expected base pay range of new hires in CA, NY, NC, and UT. Actual offers will be determined using local market data for the identified candidate’s geographic area and may vary from the stated range.
