Zoox is seeking a Senior Chassis Controls Engineer to join their Chassis Actuators team. This role involves component and system requirements, testing, reporting, and collaboration on vehicle system integration. Responsibilities include developing and integrating embedded control software for active suspension systems, designing and validating control algorithms for actuators, sensors, and ECUs, and overseeing validation activities for actuator components and systems. The engineer will also coordinate cross-functional activities, troubleshoot component and subsystem issues using tools like Jira, and execute engineering disciplines such as SFMEA and DVP&R. Collaboration with tier-one suppliers on controller design and component-level test evaluation is also a key part of the role.
Must have:

Job Details

At Zoox, you will be a member of the Chassis Actuators team responsible for component and system requirements, testing and reporting, and collaborating on vehicle system integration issues. In this role, you will work closely with the Chassis Engineering team to coordinate the execution and delivery of engineering milestones by working cross-functionally with Vehicle Integration and Attributes, Functional Safety, Electrical Integration, Software, and other teams. In addition, the candidate will work with tier one suppliers to design and develop the controller and evaluate component-level test results.

In this role, you will:

    • Develop and integrate embedded control software for active suspension systems.
    • Design, implement, and validate control algorithms for actuators, sensors, and ECUs.
    • Plan, execute, and/or oversee validation activities for actuator components and systems, including test instrumentation, test execution, data analysis, and test reporting.
    • Collaborate and coordinate a range of activities across various Zoox functions to ensure efficient and timely development to meet program milestones.
    • Coordinate troubleshooting and reporting of component and subsystem-related vehicle issues, including issue reporting and tracking using tools such as Jira, Confluence and Polarion.
    • Execution of engineering disciplines such as SFMEA, disciplined problem solving, DVP&R/PVP&R, engineering sign-off, etc.

Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree or Master's in mechanical, electrical, or related engineering and 7+ years of experience in embedded control systems engineering related to active suspension or similar automotive systems.
    • Experience designing and validating control algorithms for electro-hydraulic/mechanical systems.
    • Understanding of control systems theory and real-time embedded software.
    • Proficiency in C/C++ and simulation tools (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink).
    • Experience with requirements management, testing, and vehicle development.
    • Knowledge of automotive functional safety standards (ISO 26262).

Bonus Qualifications

    • Experience with RTOS, automotive diagnostics, and data analysis.

$167,000 - $261,000 a year
Base Salary Range


There are three major components to compensation for this position: salary, Amazon Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), and Zoox Stock Appreciation Rights. A sign-on bonus may be offered as part of the compensation package. The listed range applies only to the base salary. Compensation will vary based on geographic location and level. Leveling, as well as positioning within a level, is determined by a range of factors, including, but not limited to, a candidate's relevant years of experience, domain knowledge, and interview performance. The salary range listed in this posting is representative of the range of levels Zoox is considering for this position.
