The Senior Employment Counsel EMEA / Managing Counsel Employment EMEA provides strategic legal support on employment matters across multiple EMEA jurisdictions. Based in Amsterdam (or potentially another location), this role demands a deep understanding of local and international employment laws. Responsibilities include advising on hiring, discipline, terminations, performance management, leave, reorganizations, labor law, works councils, unions, policy proposals, and strategic initiatives. The role also involves managing disputes and litigation, collaborating with legal and HR teams, supporting employee relations investigations, and supporting global employment legal team priorities. Strong communication, writing, and organizational skills are essential, along with the ability to work independently and cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment.
Must Have:
  • Experience at a top-tier law firm and multinational company
  • Licensed to practice law (preferably Netherlands)
  • Dutch employment law expertise, Dutch Works Councils experience
  • EMEA employment law knowledge
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills

Based in Amsterdam, or potentially in another jurisdiction with significant Tesla operations, the Senior Employment Counsel EMEA / Managing Counsel Employment EMEA provides strategic legal support on employment matters across multiple jurisdictions within EMEA. This role requires a deep understanding of local and international employment laws, the ability to navigate complex legal issues, and the ability to work collaboratively and efficiently with various internal stakeholders.

What You’ll Do
  • Advise on a broad range of employment matters including but not limited to hiring, discipline and terminations, performance management, leave of absence, reorganizations, labour law, works councils and unions, policy proposals, and strategic initiatives across the EMEA region.
  • Manage and resolve demand letters, charges, disputes and other litigation both independently and in consultation with external counsel.
  • Collaborate with local and global legal and HR teams to ensure consistency in employment practices and policies across the organization.
  • Support and advise Employee Relations on employee complaint / hotline investigation matters and other workplace investigations, as needed.
  • Responsible for supporting employment legal matters relevant to the EMEA region and supporting relevant global employment legal team priorities and initiates as driven from headquarters.
  • Establish and maintain relationships, credibility and trust with business partners, HR, legal and other colleagues.
  • Provide thought partnership to other EMEA employment lawyers.
What You’ll Bring
  • Experience with a top-tier international law firm and a top multinational company.
  • Licensed to practice law in a jurisdiction of significant Tesla operations, preferably the Netherlands. 
  • Specialized in Dutch employment law with experience with Dutch Works Councils. Experience and knowledge of other EMEA employment laws and regulations is required.
  • Ability to make sound business decisions quickly and in the face of ambiguity and uncertainty.
  • Ability to independently manage and prioritize multiple projects with multiple teams simultaneously.
  • Ability to identify issues and propose and implement practical solutions quickly.
  • Strong communication, writing, presentation and organizational skills.
  • Desire and ability to work independently and cross-functionally in a fast-paced and fast changing environment.
