Highlight of the Vacancy:
In this position, you will conduct complex analyses and develop innovative data intelligence and geotechnology solutions applied to monitoring forest and landscape restoration. You will work transversally with different WRI teams, supporting methodological design, data pipeline development, strategic insight generation, and the creation of innovative analytical products, as well as other related and inherent activities to the role.
The person must combine critical thinking, synthesis capacity, and the ability to translate data into strategic recommendations, with accessible and impactful visualizations for different audiences.
What you will do:
Technical Leadership in Geospatial Data Science
- Technically lead the data and monitoring team.
- Define analytical methods and models applied to socio-environmental data (geospatial and alphanumeric).
- Conduct internal mentoring and training to strengthen the team.
Complex analyses and monitoring methodologies
- Plan, structure, and conduct complex analyses with geospatial and non-spatial data.
- Support the development and review of MRV methodologies, proposing improvements and innovations.
- Process and analyze remote sensing data, vector data, and alphanumeric data.
Data management and information security
- Support database management, defining naming standards, attributes, and structures.
- Ensure data security, integrity, and quality mechanisms.
- Structure data for identifying relevant patterns and trends.
Communication and analytical products
- Develop strategic visualizations (dashboards, graphs, maps, cartograms).
- Produce technical reports, scientific articles, and presentations for different audiences.
- Support articulation with internal teams and external partners, promoting strategic recommendations based on data.
What you will need:
- Degree in Forest Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Geography, Ecology, Data Science, Geoprocessing, Statistics or related areas.
- Desirable minimum professional experience of 5 years in geospatial data science.
- Advanced knowledge in exploratory analysis, remote sensing, biophysical and social indicators, restoration monitoring and data use for reporting.
- Proficiency in tools such as QGIS, ArcGIS, Google Earth Engine, as well as programming languages (R, Python, PostgreSQL/PostGIS).
- Experience with visualization tools (Power BI or similar).
- Knowledge in statistical models, regressions, machine learning applied to spatial data.
- Knowledge of environmental public policies and national and international MRV frameworks.
- Experience in technical leadership and multidisciplinary processes.
- Ability to articulate with different sectors of society.
- Fluent English.
