Motive is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer for their Sustaining Engineering team in Buffalo, NY. This role focuses on developing and implementing innovative test strategies, troubleshooting hardware issues, and finding creative solutions. The engineer will analyze field performance of products, drive prioritization based on data, and champion engineering excellence. Responsibilities include delving into electrical architectures, schematics, and layouts to understand and improve product performance. The role involves leading failure analysis for field issues and mentoring junior engineers in troubleshooting and system performance measurement. Collaboration with support and engineering teams is key to resolving field failures in asset trackers, vehicle gateways, cameras, and IoT devices, aiming for the highest quality and customer satisfaction. The engineer will also shape future test plans and strategies for the product line and drive continuous product improvements.
Must have:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
  • Hands-on experience with electronic systems
  • 7-10 years experience as hardware engineer
  • Electronics development, test, and debug expertise
  • Experience testing wireless technologies (WIFI, BT, GPS)
  • Experience with digital circuit design and interfaces (I2C, UART, SPI, USB)
  • Debug and failure analysis experience
Good to have:
  • Experience with cameras
  • Experience with batteries
  • Experience with other sensors

What you’ll do:

Embark on a satisfying journey through the realm of electrical engineering, where innovation and cutting-edge technology converge. Dive deep into the intricacies of electrical architectures, schematics, and layouts and drive to an understanding of how our products perform in the field and how we can steadily improve that performance.  Lead efforts for failure analysis related to field issues and mentor younger engineers in troubleshooting, failure analysis and system performance measurement.

Collaborate closely with our support and engineering teams to unlock the secrets behind field failures, immersing yourself in the dynamic challenges of asset trackers, vehicle gateways, cameras, and IoT devices. Together, we'll drive to the highest possible quality and highest levels of customer satisfaction with our products.

Seize the reins and shape the future with your expertise, crafting electrical test plans and strategies tailored to the unique demands of our diverse product line. Dig into data and drive test approaches that foster continuous improvements in our products.

What we’re looking for:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Passionate about hands on experience and desire to work directly with electronic systems
  • 7-10  years of experience as a hardware engineer in design and/or field support
  • Demonstrated domain knowledge in electronics development, test and debug
  • Experience testing wireless  technologies such as WIFI, BT, GPS, etc.
  • Experience with digital circuit design and various communications interfaces such as I2C, UART, SPI, USB, MIPI, I2S, DDR, eMMC, NAND flash etc.
  • Experience with debug and failure analysis is required
  • Experience with cameras, batteries, and other sensors is a plus

NOTE:  This is an onsite role in Buffalo NY
