Job Description

The Senior IT Domain Specialist plays a key role in ensuring the cloud platforms, systems and solutions deliver a superior connected experience for our consumer and business customers. You do this by drawing on your deep expertise in multiple public cloud offerings and technologies combined with your broad experience in designing, implementing, managing and improving complex technology solutions.
Good To Have:
  • Containerisation platforms: Docker, Kubernetes, VMware Tanzu
  • Operating systems: Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Microsoft Server
  • Infrastructure components: Data centre load balancing, storage, backup, and archiving solutions
  • Automation and scripting: Ansible playbook development, PowerShell scripting, automated server deployments
  • Software deployment: SCCM/MECM experience
  • Networking: Switching, routing, and F5 infrastructure
  • Security: Certificates and PKI management

Focus of the Role

As the Senior IT Domain Specialist, you will perform a variety of System Administration and Engineering activities and provide technical escalation to the Telstra Level 3 Operations teams located around Australia. Daily activities include providing analytical, reasoning, and specialised technical expertise to investigate, isolate and rectify complex incidents and problems escalated from the service desk. Along with Engineering based activities such as designing new complex solutions and delivering exciting projects.

This role is hybrid and will require you to work in the office 2 to 3 days a week or more when required.

What You’ll Do

  • Design & Deliver Multi-Platform Solutions: Architect and implement robust IT systems and customer network features that support strategic priorities and enhance service capabilities.
  • Optimise Deployment & Automation: Streamline deployment processes from concept to production using automation across infrastructure and operational support environments.
  • Collaborate in Agile Environments: Engage in Agile ceremonies, cross-functional collaboration, and stakeholder engagement to ensure seamless solution delivery and continuous improvement.
  • Lead Technical Development & Documentation: Produce and manage technical artefacts, guide operational teams, and mentor junior engineers to foster growth and excellence.
  • Drive Innovation & Customer Experience: Leverage emerging technologies and data insights to improve systems, simplify processes, and deliver exceptional customer outcomes.
  • Support Incident Response & Vendor Management: Provide expert support during major incidents and evaluate vendor solutions to ensure alignment with business needs and performance standards.

About You

  • Tertiary qualifications in IT, Science, or Engineering with 5–7 years of experience in infrastructure engineering, particularly on-prem hosting platforms.
  • Strong knowledge of Virtualization technologies, preferably VMware
  • Experience working with the Australian Department of Defence or Defence Industry is highly valued.
  • Experience engineering, supporting and designing On-Prem infrastructure hosting platforms
  • Solid understanding of security principles and best security practices.
  • Proven experience developing detailed engineering designs
