This role focuses on Anthology's LMS, Blackboard, creating well-designed web and mobile solutions for learners, instructors, and administrators. As a Senior Manager, Software Engineering, you'll work in an agile environment, collaborating with QA, CI, UX, and Product Management to deliver new features and releases, advocating for engineering best practices, and coordinating cross-team projects, leveraging AI technology.
Must Have
- 6-10 years in cloud software development
- Strong problem-solving, analytical thinking, and communication skills
- Proven track record managing and growing high-performing teams
- Extensive experience with Java and SQL on database management systems (SQL Server, Oracle, Postgres)
- Proficiency in web development technologies (Spring, jQuery, Ajax, HTML5, CSS3, Angular, React, Backbone, Typescript)
- Working understanding of software engineering best practices and Agile methods
- Senior-level experience working with product management
- Experience with large consumer-facing applications
- Fluency in written and spoken English
- Work closely with QA, CI, User Experience, and Product Management teams
- Deliver Anthology's new feature and original system releases
- Advocate for, evangelize, and implement engineering best practices
- Work and coordinate with other team leads on cross-team projects

This role focuses on Anthology's LMS, Blackboard, where we pride ourselves on creating well-designed web and mobile solutions to support learners, instructors, and administrators. Blackboard allows learners and instructors to access online educational experiences wherever and whenever they want through web and mobile devices. Our technology helps instructors breathe life into educational content, brings efficiency to day-to-day tasks, and empowers instructors with tools to engage and assess every learner. We help motivate learners by promoting collaboration, communication, and connections with their peers and instructors.
As a member of our Product Development team, you’ll work in an agile environment delivering industry-leading SaaS products and web service platforms. As Senior Manager, Software Engineering, you will work closely with the QA, CI, User Experience, and Product Management teams to solve a wide variety of technology challenges and to deliver Anthology's new feature and original system releases, all the while advocating for, evangelizing, and implementing engineering best practices across the team and organization. You will work and coordinate with other team leads on cross-team projects to ensure dependencies are identified, understood, and managed. You’ll be working with AI technology to enhance development efficiency and create exciting new features for our customers. These teams design, develop, maintain, and deploy scalable multi-tier enterprise web applications leveraging technologies such as Java and JavaScript.
The Candidate:
Required skills/qualifications:
- 6-10 years of experience within cloud software development
- Strong problem-solving, analytical thinking, and written and oral communication skills
- Proven track record of managing and growing high performing teams providing education or enterprise SaaS
- Considerable experience with Java and SQL on database management systems such as SQL Server, Oracle, and Postgres
- Experienced with current web development technologies like Spring, jQuery, Ajax, HTML5, CSS3, Angular, React, Backbone, and Typescript
- A working understanding of software engineering best practices and Agile methods
- Experience working with product management at a senior management level
- Experience with large consumer-facing applications
- Fluency in written and spoken English
