Hawk-Eye Innovations is seeking an experienced Senior Mobile Developer (Android) on a contract basis to join their Tracking team. The role involves enhancing and modernizing an in-house Android application used in live sports tracking and testing environments. Key responsibilities include Kotlin development, working with camera pipelines, real-time video capture, and integrating on-device machine learning for ball and player tracking. The contractor will lead best practices, improve performance, stability, and user experience, and support occasional on-site testing at sports venues.
Must Have
- Lead best practices for Android mobile development
- Design, develop, and maintain high-quality Kotlin-based Android applications
- Own complex features from design through to delivery
- Work closely with developers across Tracking, Tooling, and Computer Vision
- Support testing, debugging, and deployment of new features
- Participate in technical discussions and code reviews
- Contribute pragmatically in an agile, sprint-based environment
- Strong, hands-on experience in Android development using Kotlin
- Deep understanding of Android application architecture, lifecycle, and threading
- Proven experience working with the Camera 2 API in production
- Experience building high-performance, real-time mobile applications primarily using Kotlin
- Solid understanding of software design principles and clean code practices
- Comfortable working independently and taking ownership as a contractor

Senior Mobile Developer (Android) – Contractor
Join Hawk-Eye Innovations as a Senior Mobile Developer (Contractor)
We’re looking for an experienced Senior Mobile Developer (Android) to join our Tracking team on a contract basis, supporting the development of an in-house mobile application used in live sports tracking and testing environments.
This role is focused on Android development using Kotlin, working closely with camera pipelines, real-time video capture, and on-device machine learning. The application is currently used in Cricket, with scope to expand into other sports.
This is an urgent contractor requirement, ideally suited to a UK-based contractor, with occasional in-person testing at sports venues as required.
What You’ll Be Working On
You’ll be contributing to a production in-house Android application used internally by Hawk-Eye’s tracking and development teams.
Key areas include:
- Enhancing and modernising an existing Android application
- Improving performance, stability, and user experience
- Working directly with mobile camera pipelines using the Android Camera 2 API
- Integrating and running machine learning models on-device to support:
- Ball tracking
- Player tracking
- Optimising threading models, lifecycle management, and performance for real-time workloads
- Supporting hands-on testing in live sports environments, including occasional on-site testing at sports venues
- Collaborating closely with Tracking and Computer Vision teams to ensure clean system integration
