AECOM's Water Business Line is seeking a Senior Pipeline Design Project Manager to work in one of their US offices. This role involves supporting projects across the United States, focusing on new pipeline design and installation, existing installations, failure analysis, condition assessment, and rehabilitation. The ideal candidate will be a civil or structural engineer experienced in pipeline design, responsible for technical leadership, client and regulatory agency interface, design and construction plan review, field inspections, and failure analysis. The position also entails working on water, sewer, and stormwater infrastructure projects, including pressure pipe design and stress analysis, and understanding various construction methods. Responsibilities include providing technical guidance, quality reviews, technical writing, proposal preparation, staying updated on industry trends, and participating in industry organizations and AECOM's Technical Practice Network groups.
Must have:
  • BS in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • 8 years of related experience
  • Licensed PE
  • 8 years in pipeline design, analysis, installation, inspection
  • Experience in Mathcad / MATLAB
  • Valid U.S. Driver’s License
  • Experience with pipeline design codes and regulations
  • Ability to read 2D and 3D CAD drawings
Good to have:
  • Experience with Finite element analysis on buried structures
  • 12 years of project experience in pipeline design
  • Master’s Degree
  • Experience working in diverse teams
  • Task Lead and Technical Lead experience
  • Strong communication skills

Job Description

AECOM’s Water Business Line is seeking a talented Senior Pipeline Design Project Manager. This position will report to one of the AECOM offices in the United States including but not limited to Boston, MA; Buffalo, New York; Conshohocken, Pennsylvania; Germantown, Maryland; Rocky Hill, CT; or Chelmsford, MA.  It is expected that this role will provide support to projects throughout the United States.

The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic civil or structural engineer with experience: new pipeline design and installation, existing installations, failure and forensics analysis, condition assessment, and rehabilitation.

Responsibilities may include but not limited to:

  • Technical lead for pipeline rehabilitation and design.
  • Interface with client and regulatory agencies.
  • Collaborate with other pipeline design experts to develop and review design and construction plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Conduct field inspections and pipeline condition assessments to ensure compliance with design standards and regulations. Assess pipeline for remaining useful life and recommend renewal treatments.
  • Work on projects related to pipeline failure analysis and pipeline forensics analysis.
  • Work on projects from planning through design and construction services, for new and rehabilitation pipe designs, for water, sewer and stormwater infrastructure.
  • Work on projects related to pressure pipe design and pipe stress analysis.
  • Understanding of construction methods, such as open-cut and trenchless (micro tunneling, jack and bore, etc.) for sewer and water infrastructure.
  • Provide technical guidance to AECOM project teams and mentoring junior level staff. Quality reviews of work by other AECOM project teams.
  • Technical writing, reviewing, and providing clear, concise input to investigations, memorandums, engineering reports and documentations.
  • Prepare engineering services proposals, fee estimates, and schedules.
  • Stay current on industry trends and advancements and regulations in pipeline design and engineering. Disseminate current industry trends and advancements to junior staff.
  • Participation in relevant industry organizations committees for standards and/or best practices development.
  • Participation in AECOM’s Technical Practice Network groups, with opportunities for leadership.

 

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • BS in Civil or Structural Engineering plus 8 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Licensed PE
  • 8 years of project experience in design of municipal water, wastewater and/or stormwater pipeline design, analysis, installation, and inspection.
  • Previous experience in Mathcad / MATLAB and FEA.
  • Valid U.S. Driver’s License and as a condition of employment, must pass AECOM’s Motor Vehicle Records Review.
  • Previous experience working with pipeline design codes, standards, and regulations.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret 2D and 3D CAD drawings.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience conducting Finite element analysis on buried structures and pipelines.
  • 12 years of project experience in design of municipal water, wastewater and/or stormwater pipeline design, analysis, installation, and inspection.
  • Master’s Degree
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully work in diverse teams.
  • Task Lead and Technical Lead on projects.
  • Strong communication skills in coordinating with internal team, clients, sub-consultants, and regulatory agencies.
