The Senior Project Engineer will join the LH Group (a Division of Wabtec UK Ltd) in Burton on Trent, supporting customers with maintenance and operation optimization through customized solutions for spare parts, repair, and overhaul of existing trains. This role involves leading engineering projects, resolving technical issues, producing documentation, developing solutions for safety and cost-efficiency, and liaising with customers and suppliers.
Must have:
  • Engineering qualification in Mechanical Engineering (HNC/HND or equivalent)
  • Knowledge on the maintenance and overhaul of powertrain products, ideally in a rail environment.
  • Skilled at root-cause analysis techniques, product testing and fault finding.
  • Confident in the interpretation and writing of technical specifications and drawings.
  • The ability to prioritise and plan effectively whilst working under pressure to tight deadlines.
  • The ability to liaise with customers and suppliers at all levels.

Who will you be working with?

We are seeking an experienced Senior Project Engineer to join our team at the LH Group (a Division of Wabtec UK Ltd) based in Burton on Trent. we support our customers through maintenance and operation optimisation with customised solutions for spare parts, repair, and overhaul activities on existing trains.

Role: Senior Project Engineer

Salary: £Competitive

Hours: Monday to Thursday 08:00 to 16:30pm and Friday 08:00am to 13:00pm, 37 hours per week

Contract Type: Permanent, Full-Time

How will you make a difference?

The Senior Project Engineer will work within the Wabtec Powertrain Engineering team, providing support in all aspects of engineering related to Wabtec’s powertrain business; primarily focusing on improving reliability and providing technical support for the overhaul of traction equipment.

What will your typical day look like?

  • Lead and support engineering projects and resolve technical issues.
  • Produce and present technical documentation, reports, and drawings.
  • Develop solutions to improve safety, reliability, and cost-efficiency.
  • Support production with day-to-day technical challenges and product changes.
  • Liaise with customers and suppliers, acting as the technical point of contact.
  • Participate in tendering activities and technical review meetings.
  • Ensure compliance with Quality, Health & Safety, and Environmental standards.
  • Assist with root cause analysis and supplier engagement.
  • Drive continuous improvement and support group-wide initiatives.
