The Senior R&D Engineer – AI Product Owner is responsible for the coordination and success of software product development for the SimAI platform, a SaaS AI-based technology. This role involves tackling complex product issues, meeting customer needs, and achieving development goals. The engineer will contribute to building top-tier AI products that support numerical simulations. Key responsibilities include owning the SimAI product roadmap, gathering user feedback, designing UX/UI solutions, coordinating agile development processes, and researching marketing needs. The role requires independent work with minimal supervision and may involve mentoring. The engineer will also be responsible for bug verification, release testing, and documentation.
Must have:
  • Bachelor’s in Computer Science or Engineering.
  • 5 years experience in engineering or CAE.
  • 2+ years of product ownership experience.
  • Experience in agile software development.
  • Excellent communication skills.
Good to have:
  • Experience in a large-scale commercial software environment.
  • Understanding of the full simulation process.
  • Understanding of customer requirements.
  • Ability to work in a geographically distributed team.

Summary / Role Purpose

The SimAI platform is a SaaS AI-based technology that brings unprecedented speed, innovation and accessibility to simulation. It is based on proprietary Deep Learning algorithms at the forefront of AI state of the art. With Ansys SimAI, users can train AI models using simulation results and then reliably predict the performance of complex problems in minutes instead of hours or days. It empowers users to take faster decisions, make faster iterations and ultimately faster innovation. 

 

The Senior R&D Engineer – AI Product Owner is responsible for the coordination and success of software product development. In this role, the Senior R&D Engineer – AI Product Owner will support the team to tackle complex product issues, satisfy customer requirements, and accomplish development objectives. You will be part of a team that builds best-in-class AI products that facilitate workflows around numerical simulations. 

  

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Owns a part of the SimAI product roadmap, from sprint planning to release and measuring impact on users. 

  • Collects and researches user problems and specifies user-centric solutions. 

  • Design and interface with design team to solve UX & UI challenges.

  • Coordinates agile rituals around software development, and user research. 

  • Works independently with minimal supervision and may take on some planning and mentoring responsibilities.

  • Researches and understands the marketing requirements for an AI product, including target environment, performance criteria and competitive issues. May work with strategic customers or proxies to assess needs and solutions to develop.

  • Performs complex bug verification, release testing and support for assigned products.   

  • Document and interface with documentation team to ease support efforts.

 

Minimum Education/Certification Requirements and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Engineering with 5 years of combined experience in engineering, computer aided engineering (CAE) simulations, pre-sales support, or a Masters with 3 years of experience.

  • 2+ years of product ownership experience in agile software development, ideally in an AI or cloud-related product. Sharp skills in backlog management and priorization. Knowledgeable in measuring impact of a feature after it is delivered.

  • Ability to navigate highly complex topics with great uncertainty.

  • Awareness of industry trends towards automation and democratization, requiring workflows that are fast, accurate, and easy-to-use.

  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.

 

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

  • Experience delivering high-quality products in a large-scale commercial software development environment.

  • Experience and understanding of the full end-to-end simulation process from geometry to solution post-processing.

  • Understanding of customer requirements and tools used in this domain.

  • Familiar or willing to learn how to bring cutting edge R&D topics into productized items and features.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a geographically distributed team.
