Job Summary

Flock Safety is a leading safety technology platform focused on crime prevention. This high-performance team is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for their Device Software Android Apps team. The role involves driving stability and performance for embedded LPR platforms, focusing on headless custom Android applications. The engineer will own system architecture, quality, and low-level performance of fleet applications, integrating critical features like nativeML library and imaging solutions in collaboration with ML and hardware teams.

Must Have

  • Strong Kotlin experience
  • Experience developing camera and image-processing applications
  • Possess strong debugging skills and experience with debugging custom Android hardware
  • Experience with headless Android-embedded systems
  • Knowledge of Android application development, methodologies, design patterns
  • Have the ability to read through a large existing codebase and adapt quickly
  • Experience building and shipping custom Android devices
  • Have worked on other mobile application frameworks
  • Have experience with architecture, design, documentation
  • Skilled in JIRA, Confluence, Jenkins, Gerrit, Git/GitHub

Good to Have

  • Experience with managing dashboards monitoring device health

The Opportunity

Flock is looking to add a Software Engineer to our Device Software Android Apps team. In this role, you will be the core engineer driving the stability and high-performance of our embedded LPR platform, focusing exclusively on headless custom Android applications. You will master the full system architecture, directly owning the quality and low-level performance of fleet applications, and rapidly integrating critical features—including new versions of the nativeML library and performance-critical imaging solutions—in close collaboration with our ML and hardware teams.

The First 30 Days

  • Familiarize yourself with members of the Engineering and Product Team
  • Become familiar with the hardware design, embedded software, cloud interface, build and deployment tools, fleet health, and project statuses.

The First 60 Days

  • Expand your knowledge of the Picard platform (apps, drivers, OS)
  • Start to get familiar with the android camera stack

The First 90 Days

  • Implement required code changes
  • Define testing criteria, help develop tests, and work with QA to build out their test plans for the new feature
  • Support the launch of your features, including daily monitoring of deployed to devices
