As a Senior Unreal Engineer, you will lead a small team to develop UE5-integrated tools. You will translate technical architecture into working code, collaborate with a principal architect, integrate AI/ML components, and maintain high code standards. Must have:
  • 5+ years in game or tools development.
  • Expert in Unreal Engine 4 or 5 (C++ and Blueprint).

  • Experience managing small teams or solo projects.
  • Working knowledge of build systems and workflows.
  • Comfortable navigating roadmap execution remotely.

Senior Unreal Engineer – Tools & Systems

Snail Games strives to create the new high bar for gameplay experience in online gaming. We have been a global developer and publisher of digital entertainment since 2009 and are committed to pushing the boundaries of the industry. We are currently seeking a Senior Unreal Engineer to lead execution on a tightly scoped, UE-integrated tools initiative. This role is ideal for someone who thrives as both a technical lead and an individual contributor, capable of turning a roadmap into working, high-quality systems with minimal oversight.

Job Type: Full-Time Location: This position is fully remote but limited to applicants residing in Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Maine, Missouri, New Jersey, Nevada, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, Washington, and Wyoming.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the lead engineer on a small, focused team delivering UE5-integrated tools in support of proprietary systems.

  • Translate high-level technical architecture into executable tasks and working code in Unreal Engine.

  • Collaborate with a principal architect to scope and refine engineering milestones.

  • Integrate AI/ML components built by dedicated AI engineers into usable editor tools or runtime features.

  • Maintain high standards of reliability, modularity, and maintainability in all code contributions.

  • Serve as the primary problem-solver for day-to-day technical execution.

Minimum Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in professional game or tools development.

  • Expert in Unreal Engine 4 or 5, including both C++ and Blueprint scripting.

  • Demonstrated experience delivering features from design to implementation in a live or production-level environment.

  • Strong familiarity with version control systems (Perforce, Git, or similar).

  • Experience managing or technically guiding small teams or solo projects with cross-functional input.

  • Working knowledge of build systems and deployment workflows.

  • Comfortable navigating roadmap execution independently in a remote team.

Nice to Have

  • Familiarity with Unreal’s behavior trees, AI controllers, or gameplay systems.

  • Experience integrating AI/ML pipelines into runtime or editor-based tools.

  • Previous work on proprietary toolchains or technical prototypes.
