Job Description

The Senior User Experience Designer creates user-friendly experiences for users interacting with ANSYS products and services. This role involves assessing product requirements, developing storyboards and wireframes based on user needs, and creating detailed visual mockups. The designer will be expected to take projects from ideation to delivery, improve functions, and communicate design rationale to other teams. Responsibilities include planning and estimating design workloads and creating usability studies. The role requires collaboration with product managers, development teams, and other designers to contribute to product design.

Good to have:
  • Certificate in HCI.

Summary / Role Purpose  

The Senior User Experience Designer creates easy and delightful experiences for users interacting with ANSYS products and services. The UX designer assesses the functional and content requirements of a product, develops storyboards, creates wireframes and task flows based on user needs, and produces visually detailed mockups that convey the desired look and feel for the product. A passion for visual design and familiarity with UI trends and technologies are essential in this role, enabling the UX designer to bring fresh and innovative ideas to a project. This is an advanced role, suited for individuals with a demonstrated experience in usability problem-solving and ideation in design, but also focused on content production and communication. It is intended to leverage the UX professional’s experience, presentation and communication skills and to feed into either a dedicated area of design in which the user will build expertise, or to start collaborating to support projects that improve functionality across the company. 

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Wholly plans, designs, and delivers entire functional range of required UX projects 

  • Demonstrates ability to take projects from ideation to delivery, incrementally improving functions continuously, sometimes with little guidance. 

  • May review UX artifacts created by other UX team members 

  • Utilizes prototyping tools and UX toolkits 

  • May create, review, and manage submissions to development code streams with high quality 

  • Creates and delivers usability studies 

  • Plans and estimates own design and implementation workloads, utilizing process accelerations and optimizations 

  • Communicates design rationale across product creation disciplines and personnel 

  • Records usability/UX problems with clear explanations and recommendations for improvement 

  • Brings own experience to other team members in UX techniques, development processes and all other tasks 

  • Build expertise in knowledge and usage of Ansys software 

  • Works closely with product managers, development teams, and other designers, sometimes across multiple business units. 

  • May contribute to design and methods patents implemented in Ansys software 

 

Minimum Education/Certification Requirements and Experience 

  • BS or BA in Human-Computer Interaction, Design Engineering, Industrial Design, or BS in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering with 5 years’ experience or MS with 3 years’ experience 

  • Experience with Microsoft Office and CAD/CAE in any form 

  • Experience with Figma, or similar design tools like Framer, Adobe XD, Sketch, or others

  • Experience co-leading development cycles for a software product, from ideation to shipment 

  • Is detail-oriented and utilizes highly developed organizational skills including the ability to meet deadlines 

  • Ability to communicate well with software development teams 

 

Preferred Qualifications and Skills 

  • Certificate in HCI 

  • Particular Experience with: 

    • Figma
    • Modeling and simulation applications:  
    • UX design and collaboration tools:  
    • Tools & technologies for UI implementation:  
    • Screen-capture/editing/video-editing tools 
  • Ability to: 
    • Smoothly iterate on designs, taking direction, adjusting, and re-focusing towards a converged design 

    • Organize deliverables for future reflection and current investigations, sometimes within cross-functional teams  
    • Communicate succinctly and professionally via email, chat, remote meetings, usability evaluations, etc. 

    • Prototype rapidly using any tools available
