Silicon Labs is seeking an experienced Senior Validation Engineer to join their IoT RF Validation team. The role involves ensuring product performance, scalability, and time-to-market for highly flexible wireless SoCs. Responsibilities include bringing up and validating new Silicon Labs IP on silicon, performing RF hardware testing at various levels, conducting lab measurements for transceiver performance, presenting validation reports, and debugging issues with cross-functional teams. The engineer will also create or modify tests within the test software framework. The position requires expertise in analog signal fundamentals, circuit components, RF signal chains, and digital modulation formats, along with proficiency in using RF lab instruments and hardware testing.
Must have:
  • BSc/MSc in Electrical Engineering with 4-6 years of experience
  • Strong grasp of analog signal fundamentals and basic circuit components
  • Advanced knowledge of RF signal chains (LNAs, mixers, PAs, A/D, D/A)
  • Advanced knowledge of digital modulation formats and measurement methods
  • Proficiency with RF lab instruments (signal generator, spectrum analyzer, etc.)
  • High proficiency in hardware testing, from planning to data review
Good to have:
  • Experience using Python or other high-level modeling languages
  • Experience with revision control systems (Gitlab, Github, Bitbucket)
  • Basic DSP knowledge (up/down sampling, FIR filtering)
  • Knowledge of wireless communication standards (Bluetooth LE, 802.15.4, 802.11 WiFi)
  • Experience developing automated test systems
  • Experience leading a technical team
  • Experience in technical customer support or field application engineering
  • Demonstrated ability to generate high output in a self-driven manner

Why this position matters 

 

We are developing highly flexible wireless SoCs in a fast-paced environment. The IoT RF Validation team has a vital role in ensuring product performance, scalability, and time to market. We are looking for an experienced engineer focusing on radiated and conducted RF performance measurement and DSP design validation of wireless PHY and MAC layer IPs for low-power System-on-Chip IoT products.  You will be part of a specialized, highly skilled IP-SoC development team spanning multiple wireless communications technologies such as Bluetooth Low-Energy, 802.15.4 Zigbee-Thread, 802.11 Wi-Fi, Wi-SUN, and proprietary short-range wireless. You will be taking designs through the complete development lifecycle from initial conceptto silicon bring-up and optimization of shipping products. 

 

Responsibilities 

  • Bring-up and validate new Silicon Labs IP on silicon, providing support and feedback to cross-functional teams 

  • Perform RF hardware testing on different IP levels from building block to system level feature testing 

  • Perform lab measurements to validate transceiver performance, such as sensitivity, max power, blocking and more 

  • Present validation reports to cross-functional teams and work with design, product test and firmware teams to debug issues

  • Create or modify tests as needed within the test software framework. 

 

Qualifications 

  • BSc or MSc in Electrical Engineering, 6+ or 4+ years or relevant experience, respectively 

  • Strong grasp of analog signal fundamentals, basic circuit components, and specifications 

  • Advanced knowledge of  RF signal chains including LNAs, mixers, PAs, A/D and D/A  

  • Advanced knowledge of digital modulation formats (MSK/FSK, OQPSK, OOK/ASK, etc) and their measurement methods

  • Proficiency taking measurements with standard RF lab instruments (signal generator, spectrum analyzer, network analyzer, scope, DMM, supply) 

  • High proficiency in hardware testing, from planning to data review 

 

Considered as a plus: 

  • Experience using Python or other high-level modeling language

  • Experience in revision control and code management systems (e.g. Gitlab / Github / BitBucket (Stash))

  • Basic DSP knowledge (up/down sampling, FIR filtering) 

  • Knowledge of common wireless communications standards and protocols such as Bluetooth low-energy, 802.15.4, 802.11 WiFi 

  • Experience developing and using automated test systems regarding hardware testing and / or software QA

  • Experience in leading a team of 3-5 technical people in a project or sub-project to convey deliverables and achieve milestones in a timely manner 

  • Experience in technical customer support or in  field application engineering for better understanding of customer needs

  • Demonstrated ability to generate high output in a self-driven manner
