Join the Apple Watch Messages team to revolutionize communication experiences. This role involves designing, developing, and testing device software for features like Voice Dictation, Emoji Tapbacks, and Text Effects. You will collaborate with iOS counterparts and other Apple teams, focusing on creating secure, connected, and user-friendly experiences from the wrist. Responsibilities include prototyping, writing high-quality code, architecting extensible systems, and optimizing features for low-powered devices.
Must have:
  • Work with designers to turn ideas into meaningful prototypes and demo to stakeholders.
  • Write high quality, well tested, and performant code for polished experiences.
  • Architect extensible, adaptable systems that stand the test of time.
  • Profile and optimize cutting-edge features for low-powered, highly-constrained devices.
  • Work daily with quality assurance teams to find and fix bugs, edge cases, and performance issues.
  • 3+ years of related experience.
  • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
  • 3 years of experience in Objective-C or Swift.
  • Proven experience contributing to at least one application or framework.
  • A consistent track record of delivering projects on time and within specifications.
  • Familiarity with systems and hands-on experience with inter-process communication.
  • Experience optimizing applications and profiling across the entire stack.
Good to have:
  • Experience improving and expanding on existing complex projects and systems.
  • Experience defining and driving large scale projects across different levels of the stack.
  • Experience with both SwiftUI and UIKit lifecycle apps.

The Messages team on watchOS is looking for an energetic and creative software engineer to build experiences that keep the world securely connected. Work on building features like Voice Dictation, Emoji Tapbacks, Text Effects, and carrier features like RCS. You will have the opportunity to work closely with iOS Counterparts as well as many other teams across the company. We deliver experiences that shape how the world communicates and make it so simple they can do it from their wrist.

As part of the Messages team on Apple Watch, you will have many responsibilities relating to the design, development, and testing of the device software. Responsibilities include:

  • Working with designers to turn ideas into meaningful prototypes, and demoing them to stakeholders.
  • Writing high quality, well tested, and performant code to develop those prototypes into polished, Apple-level experiences that we’re proud to ship.
  • Architect systems that are extensible, adaptable, and stand the test of time.
  • Profile and optimize cutting-edge features to run well on a low-powered, highly-constrained device.
  • Work daily with quality assurance teams to find and fix all the bugs, edge cases, and performance issues that impact the user experience.
  • 3+ years of related experience
  • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
  • 3 years of experience in Objective-C or Swift.
  • Proven experience contributing to at least one application or framework.
  • A consistent track record of delivering projects on time and within specifications.
  • Familiarity with systems and hands-on experience with inter-process communication.
  • Experience optimizing applications and profiling across the entire stack.

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $147,400 and $272,100, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

Employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple’s discretionary employee stock programs. Employees are eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards, and can purchase Apple stock at a discount if voluntarily participating in Apple’s Employee Stock Purchase Plan. You’ll also receive benefits including: Comprehensive medical and dental coverage, retirement benefits, a range of discounted products and free services, and for formal education related to advancing your career, reimbursement for certain educational expenses — including tuition.
