They are seeking a full-stack Software Engineer for their Cloud Video team to build low-latency live video capabilities and a custom video management system. This role involves contributing to the rapid development of Flock’s Video Management Software, enabling customers to respond quickly to situations via live video.
Must have:
  • Extensive experience writing code.
  • Experience with React or other Javascript frameworks.
  • Proficiency in Typescript (Node) web services.
  • Ability to implement performant UI optimizations.
  • Experience designing and implementing APIs.
  • Experience with AWS and cloud tooling (Kubernetes, AWS Lambda, Docker).
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with engineering and product teams.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a full-stack Software Engineer to join our Cloud Video team, who are building extremely low-latency live video capabilities and a custom video management system to solve crime and make the world a safer place. Not for the faint of heart, overwhelmingly impactful. These cameras bring high-definition, AI-powered video wherever our customers need it. With instant alerts and clear footage, customers are always in the know, making the area safer and smarter. You do not need video experience for this role.

This engineer will contribute to the rapid development of Flock’s custom-built Video Management Software, where we display live video for our customers. This interactive application enables our customers to respond to situations quickly through live video, and this engineer will be a key part of the development of the groundbreaking product.

The Skillset

  • Love writing code and have extensive experience doing so
  • 2-5 years of experience in software development.
  • Motivated by taking an unknown problem, sinking your teeth in, and coming up with a plan of attack.
  • Experience with React or other Javascript frameworks and Typescript (Node) web services.
  • Proficient in identifying and implementing performant UI optimizations to ensure smooth and responsive user experiences across various platforms and devices.
  • Experience designing and implementing APIs.
  • Experience with AWS and cloud tooling such as Kubernetes (EKS), AWS Lambda, Docker
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with other engineering and product teams.

90 Days at Flock

We are a results-oriented culture and believe job descriptions are a thing of the past. We prescribe to 90 day plans and believe that good days, lead to good weeks, which lead to good months. This serves as a preview of the 90 day plan you will receive if you were to be hired as a Software Engineer Flock Safety.

The First 30 Days

  • Understand team workflows and processes
  • Contribute smaller features and bugfixes with guidance
  • Have all team repos cloned locally and have a good idea of what they do

The First 60 Days

  • Ability to perform in role with minimal or no guidance
  • Contribute to technical planning and architecture discussions
  • Understand design philosophies in use
  • Contribute to metric collection and automated test suites

90 Days & Beyond

  • Understand how each integration type functions at a high level
  • Come up with and speak on ideas for improving our speed, resource usage, API simplicity, and other topics to make our software suite better
  • Start to own smaller projects
  • Communicate with cross-functional teams to ensure projects succeed

The Interview Process

1. Our First Chat: During this first conversation, you’ll meet with a recruiter to chat through your background, what you could bring to Flock, what you are looking for in your next role, and who we are.

2. The Hiring Manager Interview: You will meet with your potential future boss to really dive into the role, the team, expectations, and what success means at Flock. This is your chance to really nerd out with someone in your field.

3. The Technical Assessment: Our technical assessments seek to test the hard skills required to do the job. Engineers may find themselves in coding interviews or architecture discussions, sales roles may present mock discovery calls, and leadership roles may craft 90 day plans. Your recruiter will inform you of which assessment you will be assigned and ensure you are fully prepared for your big day.

4. The Panel: Learn more about the team, responsibilities, and workflows. You should be prepared to speak about past projects, how you collaborate and communicate with others, and how you live our values. Depending on the team and role you are interviewing for, you may meet with several teammates as well as cross-functional partners.

5. The Executive Review: A chance to meet an executive and view Flock from a different lens. Be prepared to ask well-thought-out questions about the company, culture, and more.

Salary & Equity:

In this role, you’ll receive a starting salary of $130,000-$160,000 as well as stock options. Base salary is determined by job-related experience, education/training, as well as market indicators. Your recruiter will discuss this in-depth with you during our first chat.
