The manager will also track team performance, recommend solutions, and contribute to the technical architecture and roadmap. They will also participate in code reviews and ensure adherence to coding standards, manage project timelines and budgets. Experience with AI/machine learning technologies is strongly preferred.
Must have:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field.
  • 7+ years of software development experience.
  • 3+ years in a team lead or management role.
  • Strong proficiency in Java, REST APIs, Web Services, Hibernate, Spring frameworks and Angular.
  • Experience with Agile development methodologies.
  • U.S. citizenship with ability to obtain security clearance
Good to have:
  • Master's degree preferred.

Department Overview

The Cloud Platform Engineering team is responsible for the development and operations of critical cloud infrastructure and platform services, in support of Motorola Solutions' public and hybrid cloud-based Software as a Service (SaaS) solutions for public safety customers. This team is part of Motorola Solutions’ Software Enterprise division, which offers secure, reliable and efficient team communications, workflow and operational intelligence solutions for mission critical public safety and enterprise markets throughout the world. Our services leverage Cloud Computing infrastructure on Azure, AWS and GCP to build at scale.


Job Description

Motorola Solutions is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Manager of Software Engineering to lead and mentor a team of software engineers. This role requires a strong technical background with proven experience in designing, developing, and maintaining high-quality software for complex products and systems. The successful candidate will be responsible for the overall technical direction, performance, and growth of the engineering team while actively contributing to the development of key software components.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.

  • 7+ years of experience in software development, with at least 3 years in a team lead or management role.

  • Strong proficiency in Java, REST APIs, Web Services, Hibernate,Spring frameworks and Angular

  • Experience with Agile development methodologies (e.g., Scrum, Kanban).

  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.

  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Experience with software design patterns and best practices.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead, mentor, and motivate a team of software engineers, fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment.

  • Provide technical guidance and support to team members, ensuring adherence to best practices and coding standards.

  • Analyze business requirements and translate them into technical specifications for software development.

  • Design, develop, and maintain high-quality software solutions using Java, REST APIs, Web Services, Hibernate, Spring frameworks, Angular 

  • Participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle (SDLC), from requirements gathering to deployment and maintenance.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., product management, QA) to ensure successful product delivery.

  • Track team performance, identify areas for improvement, and implement strategies to enhance efficiency and productivity.

  • Stay abreast of the latest technologies and trends in software engineering and recommend appropriate solutions.

  • Contribute to the technical architecture and roadmap for the organization's software products and systems.

  • Participate in code reviews and ensure adherence to coding standards and best practices.

  • Manage project timelines and budgets effectively.

  • Experience with AI/machine learning technologies is strongly preferred.
     

Note: Candidate must be in the Allen, TX office for 1-2 days per week.

Target Base Salary Range

$98,100.00 - $196,200.00

Consistent with Motorola Solutions values and applicable law, we provide the following information to promote pay transparency and equity. Pay within this range varies and depends on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The actual offer will be based on the individual candidate.


Basic Requirements

  • Bachelors degree with 7+ years in software engineering/development experience

  • AND 3+ years of team leading and/or management experience

  • Must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain necessary security clearance as required by government contract.
