At Illumina, we are expanding access to genomic technology to realize health equity for billions of people around the world. This role is responsible for building, developing, and deploying the Global Sourcing Strategy for the assigned category. It involves developing and maintaining commercial relationships with suppliers, negotiation, strategic discussions, and supplier selection. The Strategic Sourcing Manager will monitor the market landscape, support market and NPI programs, and collaborate with technical teams to align sourcing strategies with product and technology roadmaps. The position requires strong negotiation and influencing skills to deliver savings, efficiency, and de-risking of the supply chain.

Job Details

Position Summary:

This role is responsible for building, developing and deploying the Global Sourcing Strategy for the assigned category. Is also responsible for the development and maintenance of Commercial Relationship with suppliers, negotiation, strategic discussions, supplier selection and facilitating all communications, both internally and externally, regarding supplier pricing, contracts and commercial relationship status. The Strategic Sourcing Manager shall keep a pulse on the market landscape supporting on market and NPI programs. Additionally, this position will be responsible of collaborating with pre-PDP, PDP and on market technical supports to align the Global Sourcing Strategies to product and technology roadmaps.

This position will regularly work across functions and at all levels within the Organization. Must have strong negotiation skills and be focused on delivering savings, efficiency and de-risking of the end-to-end supply chain; very strong influencing skills for decision makers and technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, plan, organize and implements Global Contracting and Sourcing Strategies and programs to increase operational efficiency and profitability.
  • Understand key supply markets and use this knowledge and experience to lead and execute the sourcing process to deliver best value.
  • Deploy specific procurement process knowledge and expertise to lead the analysis of supplier proposals (using appropriate tools and technology) to ensure best value for spend allocation decisions that are made regarding supplier selection and contract award.
  • Lead negotiation of commercial and contractual terms (with appropriate legal support) with suppliers to ensure that commercial and contractual risk is managed appropriately
  • Build strong relationships with Strategic Suppliers, driving early supplier engagement into Illumina’s Strategic Procurement Business System (SPBS), and long-term partnership for wing-to-wing product lifecycle
  • Influence and manage key, strategic supplier relationships to ensure that supplier performance and value is maintained and delivered throughout the contract lifecycle
  • Develops relationships with technical stakeholders and attends to TST, Asset Teams and other known mechanisms to understand product and technology roadmaps to evolve the Sourcing Strategies and influence the decision making before NPI phases.
  • Identify and deliver direct spend savings to realize the performance objectives of the business
  • Delivers management information, reporting, insight and analytics on supplier cost and performance
  • Provide guidance and contribution on policy and process continuous improvement of the procurement function
  • Act as an interface between the supplier base and the NPI sourcing and Engineering teams at Illumina
  • Resolves and/or direct the resolution of highly complex or unusual business challenges

  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills with a strong focus on data-driven decision making
  • Excellent program/project management experience with the ability to develop and lead the execution of integrated program plans
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point)
  • To be based in the same site or within commutable distance of key stakeholders to ensure seamless collaboration and communication.

Experience/Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or biology, MBA desired
  • Significant and demonstrable 10+ years’ experience in Global Sourcing in a complex procurement and supply chain environment with, at least, 5 years in Global Pharma, Biotech and Life Sciences industry
  • Cross-functional experience and experience working across cultures, teams, and time zones with ability to handle multiple tasks in compressed timeframes
  • Proven project management skills with ability to handle multiple tasks and deliver results on time
  • Lean/Six Sigma Certification desired
  • Sourcing experience within the category is highly desirable

The estimated base salary range for the Sr Staff Strategic Sourcing Manager role based in the United States of America is: $138,800 - $208,200. Should the level or location of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable base pay range may be updated accordingly. Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s qualifications, location where the role is to be performed, internal equity, and alignment with market data. Additionally, all employees are eligible for one of our variable cash programs (bonus or commission) and eligible roles may receive equity as part of the compensation package.
