Staff AI Developer Experience Engineer

We are seeking a Staff AI Developer Experience Engineer to design and build a foundational platform for creating, deploying, and managing AI agents and applications across the enterprise. This role focuses on democratizing AI capabilities through excellent developer experiences, combining platform engineering with generative AI expertise to ensure reliability, observability, and security.

Must Have

• Build comprehensive REST APIs and MCP servers.
• Develop robust Python and TypeScript SDKs.
• Architect scalable backend services including LLM gateways.
• Design intuitive development workflows and scaffolding templates.
• Build and integrate debugging, tracing, and observability tools for AI applications.
• Implement evaluation frameworks to systematically measure agent quality.
• Implement guardrails, content filtering, and safety measures for responsible AI deployment.
• Expert programming skills in Python and TypeScript.
• Substantial experience designing and building RESTful APIs, SDKs, and developer-facing tooling.
• Deep understanding of API design principles, versioning strategies, and developer ergonomics.
• Proficiency with async programming, message queues, and event-driven architectures.
• Strong experience with containerization (Docker), orchestration (Kubernetes), and cloud platforms (AWS preferred).
• Proficiency with CI/CD pipelines, GitOps workflows, and infrastructure-as-code practices.
• Hands-on experience with LLM frameworks such as LangChain, LlamaIndex, or similar.
• Understanding of RAG architectures, embedding models, and vector databases.
• Familiarity with agentic frameworks (LangGraph, Pydantic) and multi-agent orchestration patterns.
• Experience with prompt engineering, templating systems, and systematic prompt optimization.

What You Will Do?

Platform Backend & API Development

• Build comprehensive REST APIs and MCP (Model Context Protocol) servers that expose platform capabilities to developers
• Develop robust Python and TypeScript SDKs with intuitive abstractions for agent development
• Ensure feature parity between programmatic interfaces and low-code platform capabilities
• Architect scalable backend services including LLM gateways, knowledge hubs, and tool registries

Developer Experience Optimization

• Design intuitive development workflows and create scaffolding templates that minimize friction from idea to production
• Build reusable workflow components and abstractions for common AI development patterns
• Create comprehensive documentation, tutorials, quickstarts, and example projects that enable self-service adoption
• Build programmatic interfaces for agent creation, testing, deployment, and management
• Champion developer feedback loops and continuously iterate on platform usability based on user research

Observability & Evaluation

• Build and integrate debugging, tracing, and observability tools purpose-built for AI applications
• Implement evaluation frameworks to systematically measure and improve agent quality, reliability, and performance
• Create testing and validation frameworks tailored for AI agent behaviors and LLM-powered workflows
• Design dashboards and analytics that give developers visibility into agent performance and usage patterns

Security & Compliance

• Implement guardrails, content filtering, and safety measures to ensure responsible AI deployment
• Design secure patterns for credential management, API authentication, and data access controls
• Ensure platform compliance with enterprise security policies and data governance requirements

Research & Innovation

• Keep pace with the rapidly evolving AI landscape by experimenting with new models, frameworks, and techniques
• Evaluate emerging standards and tooling to inform platform roadmap and adoption decisions
• Share learnings with the broader team and contribute to the organization's AI strategy and best practices

What You Will Bring?

Core Technical Skills

• Expert programming skills in Python and TypeScript, with the ability to write clean, efficient, well-documented, and idiomatic code in both languages
• Substantial experience designing and building RESTful APIs, SDKs, and developer-facing tooling
• Deep understanding of API design principles, versioning strategies, and developer ergonomics
• Proficiency with async programming, message queues, and event-driven architectures

Platform Development Experience

• Strong experience with containerization (Docker), orchestration (Kubernetes), and cloud platforms (AWS preferred)
• Proficiency with CI/CD pipelines, GitOps workflows, and infrastructure-as-code practices
• Experience building and operating developer platforms, internal tooling, or platform-as-a-service offerings
• Strong debugging skills and experience with observability tools (logging, metrics, tracing)

Generative AI Experience

• Hands-on experience with LLM frameworks such as LangChain, LlamaIndex, or similar
• Understanding of RAG architectures, embedding models, and vector databases
• Familiarity with agentic frameworks (LangGraph, Pydantic) and multi-agent orchestration patterns
• Experience with prompt engineering, templating systems, and systematic prompt optimization

Soft Skills & Leadership

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to create clear technical documentation
• Strong product sense and empathy for developer users
• Ability to navigate ambiguity and make pragmatic technical decisions in a rapidly evolving space
• Track record of driving adoption of tools and platforms across engineering organizations

Compensation and Benefits

At SIE, we consider several factors when setting each role’s base pay range, including the competitive benchmarking data for the market and geographic location. Please note that the base pay range may vary in line with our hybrid working policy and individual base pay will be determined based on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this role is eligible for SIE’s top-tier benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, matching 401(k), paid time off, wellness program and coveted employee discounts for Sony products. This role also may be eligible for a bonus package.

The estimated base pay range for this role is listed below.

$198,200—$297,400 USD
