The Staff Cloud Infrastructure Engineer ensures the integrity, performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness of Life.Church's cloud infrastructure. This role leads security-focused reliability efforts, ensuring robust, scalable, and resilient systems. The engineer partners with cybersecurity, architecture, DevOps, and software engineering teams to drive secure-by-default practices across CI/CD pipelines, production environments, and internal tools, supporting Life.Church’s mission to reach people for Christ through innovative technology like YouVersion.
Must have:
  • Design, implement, and maintain secure, scalable, and reliable cloud infrastructure.
  • Lead security initiatives for infrastructure reliability, observability, and automation.
  • Partner with Cybersecurity for penetration testing and vulnerability remediation.
  • Build and maintain incident response and postmortem processes with security focus.
  • Automate monitoring and alerting for security anomalies.
  • Partner with software engineers for secure coding and IaC policies.
  • Mentor engineers on secure systems design and DevSecOps best practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Proficiency in Go, Python, or Java.
  • Familiarity with container security, Kubernetes security hardening, and service mesh security.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 7+ years of experience in SRE, DevOps, or Platform Engineering with security focus.
  • Experience implementing secure CI/CD pipelines and automated security testing.
  • Experience with system monitoring, incident response, and postmortem analysis.
Good to have:
  • Certifications such as CISSP, ISM, OSCP, or Certified Kubernetes Security Specialist (CKS)
  • Working knowledge of data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA)
  • Experience with zero-trust networking, identity-aware proxies, or infrastructure policy-as-code
  • Experience with contributions to open source security or SRE tooling

Job Details

The YouVersion Staff Cloud Infrastructure Engineer is primarily responsible for ensuring the integrity, performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness of the cloud-based infrastructure and related systems supporting the applications and platforms operated by Life.Church. This role will lead security-focused reliability efforts across our systems and platforms, ensuring our infrastructure is robust, scalable, and resilient against modern threats. This Staff Engineer will also partner with cybersecurity, architecture, DevOps and software engineering teams to drive secure-by-default practices across our CI/CD pipelines, production environments, and internal tools. This person utilizes their skills to deliver technical outcomes that align with the direction of their team to further Life.Church’s mission and to reach people for Christ.

What You'll Do

  • Design, implement, and maintain secure, scalable, and reliable cloud infrastructure.
  • Lead security initiatives related to infrastructure reliability, observability, and automation.
  • Partner closely with the Cybersecurity team to coordinate and support penetration testing, vulnerability assessments, and remediation efforts across cloud infrastructure and application platforms.
  • Build and maintain incident response and postmortem processes with a focus on security root causes.
  • Automate monitoring and alerting for infrastructure and application-level security anomalies.
  • Partner with software engineers to implement secure coding practices and infrastructure-as-code (IaC) policies.
  • Mentor other engineers on secure systems design, DevSecOps best practices, and incident preparedness.

Skills Needed to Succeed

  • Maintain a systematic and organized approach to completing assignments accurately, thoroughly, and timely.
