Zoox's Advanced Hardware Engineering team is seeking a Staff Electrical Engineer specializing in High Performance Compute. This role involves designing high-speed digital and embedded systems for vehicles in accordance with industry standards. The engineer will focus on high-performance compute systems while also mentoring junior engineers and contributing individually. Responsibilities include providing engineering leadership for compute modules, collaborating with cross-functional teams (software, mechanical, integration), driving consensus in dynamic environments, and owning programs from concept to deployment.
Must have:
  • BS or MS in electrical engineering or equivalent
  • 10+ years of professional work experience
  • Strong electrical engineering fundamentals
  • Track record of successful product delivery
  • Experience in board and system-level testing
  • High-speed motherboard design
  • Working knowledge of schematic design and PCB layout tools
  • Passion for problem solving
  • Experience with prototype and high volume manufacturing
Good to have:
  • Experience in functional safety/ISO 26262/FMEA
  • Experience with EMC testing
  • Experience in automotive/EV/AV/aerospace/space industries
  • Experience in software/automation development
  • Hands-on lab experience (soldering, lab equipment)
  • Familiarity with CAN, Ethernet, GNSS, GMSL2, NVMe

Job Details

Zoox's Advanced Hardware Engineering team is responsible for the design, development, and innovation of sensor technology, networking, and the main compute platform for our vehicles. In this role, you will work within a multi-disciplinary engineering team to design high-speed digital and embedded systems in accordance with industry standards, best practices, and requirements.  Your focus will be high-performance compute systems, but you will additionally mentor and direct more junior engineers on a variety of embedded systems as well as be a strong individual contributor.

In this role, you will:

    • Provide engineering leadership for multiple Control modules, with focus on Compute
    • Work extensively with cross-functional teams (software, mechanical, integration) to ensure product success
    • Drive team to consensus in dynamic environment
    • Demonstrate technical ownership of your program from concept through to deployment

Qualifications

    • BS or MS in electrical engineering or equivalent
    • 10+ years of professional work experience
    • Strong electrical engineering fundamentals
    • Track record of successful product delivery
    • Experience in board and system-level testing and characterization
    • High-speed motherboard design
    • Working knowledge of schematic design and PCB layout tool (Altium Designer preferred)
    • Passion for problem solving (both technical and organizational)
    • Experience with both prototype and high volume contact manufacturing including 

Bonus Qualifications

    • Experience in functional safety/ISO 26262/FMEA
    • Experience with taking products though full EMC
    • Experience in automotive/EV/AV/aerospace/space or similar industries
    • Experience in software/automation development
    • Hands-on lab experience such as soldering, and experience with lab equipment (power supplies, signal generators, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzer)
    • Familiarity with common industry technologies and protocols including CAN, Ethernet, GNSS, GMSL2, NVMe
Compensation and Benefits
There are three major components to compensation for this position: salary, Amazon Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), and Zoox Stock Appreciation Rights. The salary will range from $242,000 to $291,000. A sign-on bonus may be part of a compensation package. Compensation will vary based on geographic location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.  

Zoox also offers a comprehensive package of benefits including paid time off (e.g. sick leave, vacation, bereavement), unpaid leave, Zoox Stock Appreciation Rights, Amazon RSUs, health insurance, long-term care insurance, long-term and short-term disability insurance, and life insurance.
