Job Description

The Staff Engineer, System Software will join the Data Fabric Solutions group at Samsung Semiconductors to research, design, and develop scalable heterogeneous memory solutions for Cloud or Enterprise markets. This role involves pioneering comprehensive software solutions to optimize data flow efficiency, transformation, and performance for data-intensive applications, leveraging Samsung’s SSDs, Memory, and Accelerators. The engineer will work with state-of-the-art technologies like HBM, CXL, Flash/SSD, GPUs, and high-speed networking to build open-source software frameworks and ecosystems.
Good To Have:
  • Knowledge in Python or other scripting languages.
  • Exposure to Multi-tier memory management using CXL.
  • Exposure to system performance benchmarking tools like cachebench or Sysbench.
  • Having worked on in-memory database is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of the Linux Operating System and File Systems is preferred.
  • Prior experience with REST and Redfish/DMTF.
  • Good understanding Dockers, Containers and associated technologies.
  • Exposure to discovery protocol like – SSDP.
  • Exposure to storage hardware and systems (SSDs, HDDs, NAS and SAN systems).
  • Good working knowledge or experience in any one or more of In-memory database, Key Value Storage, NoSQL, Columnar, and Spark/Hadoop Databases.
Must Have:
  • Design & development of new features for innovative memory and/or storage systems products targeted to Enterprise and Hyperscale & Cloud environments.
  • Design, implement and validate state-of-the art solutions that meet or exceed current and future products.
  • Deliver software designs and code following prevalent SW development methodologies like Agile, Scrum etc.
  • Performance analysis and tuning of system software.
  • Master’s in Computer Science, Computer Architecture, Electrical Engineering, Physics and Mathematics or related field with 8+ years of experience. PhD with Computer Science, Computer Architecture, Electrical Engineering, Physics and Mathematics with 5+ years of experience.
  • Strong programming skills in C/C++.
  • Strong OS fundamentals including but not limited to multi-threading, multi-processing, inter process communication, scheduling and interrupt handling.
  • Experience in Linux kernel internals and memory management.
  • Experience in storage system design & development, debug.
  • Experience with File Systems, Object Storage or similar technologies.
  • Good understanding of x86, TCP/IP, NVMe-oF, RDMA/RoCE, and Networking.

The Data Fabric Solutions (Group Website) is part of Memory Solution Lab in Samsung Semiconductors, the industry's technology and volume leader in Storage and Memory devices. The Data Fabric Solutions (DFS) group pioneers and creates comprehensive software solutions that optimize data flow efficiency, transformation, and performance for client’s data-intensive applications, leveraging Samsung’s world-leading SSDs, Memory, and Accelerators. As an integral part of Samsung’s strong R&D focus & lab innovation engine, they cater to diverse data fabric deployments

Specifically, team has opening for seasoned System Software Engineer who have experience in researching, design and development of scalable heterogeneous memory solutions for the Cloud or Enterprise markets. He or she will join a team of experts in researching and developing innovative solutions that utilize existing and emerging technologies to add substantial value to Samsung.

The team covers a broad spectrum of topics and is building an ecosystem surrounding HBM, SSD and Non-volatile memory Software. You will be working with the-state-of-art technologies in the context of vertical integration and optimization across H/W, S/W and cloud applications. You will be working on leveraging latest technologies including HBM (High Bandwidth Memory), CXL (Compute Express Link), Flash/SSD, GPUs, high speed networking and others to research/build open-source software framework/eco-systems.

Location: Daily onsite presence at our San Jose, CA office / U.S. headquarters in alignment with our Flexible Work policy.
